Poor Adolf Emil F?rstenau (1865-1930, char. Generalmajor aD) traded his left hand and forearm for the first ribbon on his bar, so will discuss that in the following closeup scan.

This portrait was taken after his promotion to Oberst on 21 May 1917, as commander of the 192nd Infantry Brigade.

    Impulses! :banger:

Commander grade Saint Henry Order was awarded to him on 28 August 1916 for heroic defense of his unit, Saxon Reserve Infantry Regiment 102 in the sector Maurepas-Hemwald between 24July and 11 August, repelling innumerable enemy attacks under constant artillery bombardment. The one armed Oberstleutnant personally led his men in hand to hand action, driving the enmey back and saving the lines of the 23rd Reserve Division.

    pinback awards are

Saxon Albert Order-Officer with Swords (8.2.16)
Prussian Iron Cross 1st Class 1914
W?rttemberg Order of the Crown-Honor Cross with Swords (15.4.15)
