The knight cross is given for actions in the 1st World War, for ancienety in the administration or the army or for other reason this person recieved the golden medal in the Order of Leopold II, with is lower in rank than the knight degree, for that reason a bar with the miniature of the golden medal was placed on the ribbon of the knight cross. the bars where created on the 19 january 1962, it exist olso for the medals and palms of the order of the crown

See here the model made by FONSON when Prins Boudouin bekame Royal Prins in august 1950. He folowed the tradition of the Royal Monogram, but this model has never been officiel. On the 8 jully 1952 the decoration was reorgenised and a lion came on the backside of the medal.
