    1. True. But an original case could bump up the price a bit. Still, you are right--could be lower, especially on ebay.
    2. Excellent badges; some of my favorites. You have all 10, very nice.
    3. Recent prices are around $250 or so. $995 is just short of a 1st Class badge. (The one pictured is the 2nd Class.)
    4. Same ebay seller discussed on this thread (different forum): http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=753995 It now appears that the ebay and YJ sellers are different. If someone buys it on ebay, that seller will snatch it up on YJ. Then sell it to the ebay bidder. I guess... Best, Rich
    5. As stated in the item description (and also in my history of the War Wound Association), blue enamel signifies an executive officer (幹部・役員章 kanbu yakuinshou) in the association.
    6. See the same insignia here, about halfway down the page http://imperialjapanmedalsandbadges.com/manbadges2.html
    7. Another badge, photos supplied by a third party. Appears to be dated Koutoku 9 (1940) I think. Sterling silver, but the remaining inscription is dulled and hard to read.
    8. This major breach is also happening: http://www.ecommercebytes.com/C/blog/blog.pl?/pl/2014/6/1401640603.html
    9. Please copy and paste to other forums if you feel it is necessary. (Sorry for the red background--I copied this post myself and this appeared.)
    10. As some may know, there has been a MAJOR security breach at ebay. This affects both buyers and sellers. See here for the official post by ebay, but be sure that they are not always as transparent as users would like: https://info.ebayinc.com Read up on this issue through ecommercebytes.com, which is a highly reliable, objective website. Remember that ebay is protecting their brand and usually doesn't reveal all the trouble. Start here : http://www.ecommercebytes.com/cab/abn/y14/m06/i02/s01
    11. Demon faces and the tengu (mountain demon) are common bases on cups, but not found often on military cups. Here is one civilian cup from my collection. Uninscribed, but excellent design.
    12. Yasuo, yes. Thanks. And you can be sure that if this is a posthumous award, the date recorded on the documents is the date he died or the date he was confirmed deceased.
    13. Award for 6th Class GK, 7th Class RS, and cash award of 2100 yen. Navy sailor Petty Officer 2nd Class Maruyama [??]. The cash award is high, so probably a posthumous award.
    14. One dictionary that helped me tremendously over the years is 'A Dictionary of Military Terms, Eng-Japanese, Japanese-Eng.' By Creswell and Hiraoka. Univ of Chicago Press. 1942. My 7th edition is 1946. Incredible resource. You may be able to find it at a low price at online used bookstores.
    15. As translated above, but also frequently translated as repatriation. Same basic meaning. Pronounced KIKAN.
    16. The outside embossed shape is the Japanese national flag, not a camera. I have seen these often. This dealer should be more restrained in his/her descriptions. The interior kanji read 'Discharge Commemorative.' Best, Rich
    17. Thanks for the info, utopias.
    18. Excellent thread Nick! Was the final price on Yahoo Japan too high?
    19. Thanks Nick. I had never seen that thread!
    20. Very rare badge/breast star just ended on Yahoo Japan. Republic of China, Peking Govt Order (1911-1928): The Order of Rank and Merit Grand Order. http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h186396022 For some reason, I cannot copy pictures from the auction, so please check the link.
    21. Very rare badge/breast star just ended on Yahoo Japan. You may have few chances to see this badge. Republic of China, Peking Govt Order (1911-1928): The Order of Rank and Merit Grand Order. http://page8.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/h186396022 For some reason, I cannot copy pictures from the auction, so please check the link.
    22. The frosted kanji mean something like 'The Glory of the Country.' The others: '4th Infantry, Rear Guard [second Reserve] Commemorative.' As for the family name, it is Chitose (千年).
    23. It reads 'Ministry of the Army, Gift for Military Merit.' So this one is 1940s or earlier.
    24. It is difficult to date these, but I suspect it is post-war. Not 100% sure, but the design work appears to be 1960s...
