    2. Those of you who have done the Verdun tour know the great Pizza served just off to the right, 20m from the bridge... German long range artillery hits the town...
    3. Another over the top one, capture of Douaumont.... lots of very, very bloody fighting there later on, but the initial capture was a bit different...
    4. I was lucky enough to find a series of postcards sent by a man of the 37th Füsiliers (A reall "Verdun unit")... It shows some rather over the top artists impressions.... Pre battle bombardment of the Cote Lorraine... The Verdun forts are up in those hills...
    5. Hi, it was covered by a nEK2. Problem is, WW1 ek doc fakes are RARE! So you dont really think twice when you buy them........
    6. and the dead give away.... it is heavy paper from an old book... as you can see, it was from one of those plank pages that had a picture glued to it. a thin line remains. You can also see where they razored off some text....
    7. Was just burned on an ebay auction :-( Still, it was worth it just to be able to document this. It is a generic document so it could pop up with any unit on it. The faker could change the stamp, typewriter and unit, so there is no way of knowing. Like the faked East Africa docs above, he is probably using end pages from old books.... Here is the doc....
    8. That is a fantastic piece of history, even if you dont collect Tipstaffs, it would have had a place of honour in my study!
    9. Thanks, I should have thought of that! Any idea of the stuff on post 15? best Chris
    10. ..photo. I am not big on Freikorps... can anyone tell me why they have 19 on the shoulder?
    11. Hi Heinz, a good man to have in the familly tree! In 1918 they were wearing steel helmets like the rest of the army. Best Chris
    12. Hi, maybe Taiwan?
    13. could possibly be him...? ID: I598786722 Name: William Arthur BURTON Given Name: William Arthur Surname: BURTON Sex: M Birth: 27 Apr 1882 Death: 15 Jul 1956 1 Occupation: Founder of company "Proderite"
    14. Hi, Does anyone have any idea about this... Does this mean he only arrived in France in August 1918? It looks to be a very minimal career for someone with a so potentially interesting pedigree.... For those with a bit more experience with these cards... what do you think he did with his life 1900-1917? Did he retire from the army in 1920? Thanks Chris
    15. I think the old guy above is actually Landsturm? Here is another fine study for the "old Geezer" section....
    16. But ended life with a thicker barrel and what looks like an added German Bayonet lug?
    17. OK, he has something that started life as a Lebel....
    18. Hi, here is a bit of a write up of their last day of the war when "my man" was wounded... http://www.kaiserscross.com/41815/239601.html
    19. Thanks, if I just knew which Verzeichnis ... :-) Any ideas for 15? I think it is "Mutter..." and the rest is greek... Best Chris
    20. Hi, I forgot to check Tony's sight. I will probably try to trade this away, so will mail him and ask if he has any wartime stuff to get rid of. Best Chris
    21. Hi, to my ignorant Flying badge eye... its looks really good! Disks are hard to read though, can you post bigger pics? Thanks chris
