Shoot him a mail and ask the exact criteria.. Is the photo taken while in service or after he left the legion? maybe he thinks he is entitled to it, but is not? i to am curious.

I have seen ex Legionnaires wearing this with service from the 80s-90s. I thought they were just wearing this because they thought they were entitled to it, but were not?

Hi, depending on the owner you find them with or without photo, some varaitions have an EK printed between the leaves. Fom the fading on this one there never was a photo. Chip, I hear you. This arrived by mail in a frame... the glass broken. I have become a hardass frame chucker outer. 95% of frames are removed at the door. in the long run its better for the docs. If anyone has a little web savvy and some time, I would be glad, along with a coworker volunteer, and a nod from the chairman, to do a GMIC page on these commemorative docs.

And his Wound badge doc for the gold badge (My first WW1 gold wound doc). I assume it was one big bad wound. The damage in the bottom corner was the post office by the way :-(

Followed by the real EK doc a few moths later....

Okay, no exact date for his wound, but he seems to have been badly wounded in may-July 1916, probably just before may as he was finished in hospital and already back at the ersatz batln. I assume a very, very bad wound that had him invalided out. Anyway, a letter sent with his EK2 to the EB

A collection as well focused and presented as this blows many a "Rich guys pile of RKs " out of the water. It shows the difference between a "Collector" and a "Gatherer", two thumbs up indeed.

All the ones I saw in South Africa that actually came from DSWA had this stamp (different numbers of course...)

One of the great advantages of growing up in South Africa... I was able to find 3-4 of these, captured by South African troops in GSWA. Down side is I traded them all away. A friend got me this one some time ago, the condition is not as nice as the ones I used to have, but still a nice piece.

Strangely he was the BMVK 3rd class and wound badge... but no EK2 !!

But how muck more can you have been through than this guy. Of note... he was with the Alpenkorps when the Edelweiss was still an AWARD as opposed to a badge, and Ditto for the Karpathankorps badge. Both entered on the botton right of the doc.

A lot of guys dont care for these post WW1 commemorative documents....

Holy Shyte... you are right !!!! Check out the signature in the Militaerpass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! From the guys diary he was in a unit of moaning old farts whose main occupation was complaining about being wet and cold and that the mail was not arriving. Its a nice little group, but mainly because of the gassing, the rest of the diary makes him to be a "non warrior"

What a great story ! I have often met guys who have awarded themselves the knights cross ( ) but have never knowingly met a guy with a top of the line award that has never mentioned he was awarded one.... (or maybe I have, I just never found out)... Anyway... great story!
