    1. In the middle of the frame I have some plant (I admit that sounds pretty ignorant... "some plant") from the cemetery at the church of Somme Py.... The Church today.....
    2. OK, I took the easy way out.... I picked up a tunic in good condition.... and used the moth eaten one to display Leib Regt Association badges... -)
    3. This beaten up old Krätzchen entered service in 1900 and seems to have been worn and worn and worn..... It seems like the wearer sweat so much the blue dies ran into the red bits.... It seems to have spent its life in the 12th Bavarian Infantry Regt
    4. I am finally getting groups I want to keep together framed and on the wall....
    5. After many years of thinking, thinking, then thinking some more, I am finally getting around to Framing the wife's Great Grandfather..... This is the rough Layout, With a WW1 and WW2 Photo
    6. It is possible. I often wonder if what we usually accept as the purpose of the badge (Members of a MGSSA) was not ignored by certain units and men in some Regiments wore them as long as they had qualified as a machine gunner in one of the machine gun schools (Hammelburg, Beverloo etc) as opposed to unqualified guys carrying ammunition etc..
    7. Good question.... many people say only MGSSA members did, but I have a couple of Photos somewhere of the Machine Gun Company in a bavarian Reserve Inf Regt and many of the guys are wearing the badge.
    8. And to the almost perfect unit!!! Of course... a "2" on the shoulder would be better :-)
    9. OOOOOOOhhhhh..... I would love to get my hands in Brian's Drawers!!!!!
    10. Hi, indeed, but there were various Gebirgs MG Abteilungen who were part of the alpenkorps.
    11. I like this one :-) Unfortunately not possible to say if he was part of one othe Gebirgs MG Abteilungen und from one of the Jäger Battalons....
    12. Looks impressive!!! Do you have the cavalry sword to go with it?
    13. A couple more... From the date and company it is possible to narrow this down to Gold Medal winner Adalbert Thalammer from the 10th Comp. 8 Bav Inf. regt. The 2nd one unknown, probably Bav 20. I.R.
    14. If anyone can read the writing it's you :-) Here are some more examples... http://www.kaiserscross.com/76501.html
    15. Thanks Uwe, I have seen about 4-5 over the years on ebay and the pile of blanks. On the first page of this thread there are more.....
    16. I know we have had it before.... but because its the 29th of march....
    17. Hi Tony, There are quite a few red lights on that one, the biggest one being I saw a shady dealer with about 10-15 blanks of this doc at a show ;-)
    18. A Bavarian collector gave me a bit more infromation... It seems this is a typical Fähnrich set up. The Jäger wore the green shoulder boards well into WW1, so this is the tunic as it would have been worn by a Fähnrich during the first couple of years of the war.
    19. Expensive Fake "Colonial" http://www.ebay.de/itm/Vorlaufiger-Ausweis-Eisernes-Kreuz-1-Klasse-Lindi-DOA-1916-105735/232261358371?_trksid=p2060778.c100276.m3476&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140725133650%26meid%3D0c2954d567be4eef815c142394fd057a%26pid%3D100276%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D252683276881
    20. Indeed... i had not seen the Russian connection. Does Helen Fry's book have anything good on him? I thought she would mention him
    21. I am glad these landed up in the right hands... albeit on the wrong continent! :-)
    22. You can see the senior NCOs in this one wearing the same type of greatcoat....
    23. One of the interesting features... other than the Private piece is unit stamped, are the buttons on the front. Unlike the issue other ranks coat the buttons on the front are not functional. the functional buttons are hidden along the wearers right side.... The reason for this is (apparently) that many of the men wearing these were possible candidates for Lt d. Res.... which would have required them to buy an officers overcoat.... with this... if the NCO ever became an officer, the buttons in the middle were moved to the one side, and an extra row of buttons were added to the other side.... and there were no button holes down the middle to show it was once an coat for NCOs....
