    3. Hi, I am trying to figure out how amyn Full colonels there could have been in the Bavarian Jägers? I don;t find one commanding a Battalion, Possibly Bavarian Jäger Regt Nr. 1? Or Brigade, or Alpenkorps Staff? Any brainstorming thoughts? Thanks Chris
    4. Hi Jeff, can you post the complete belt in a seperate thread, from the bit we see it looks really nice!
    5. Hi Pete, nice docs! It must have been more than 2 days though, you have 4th and 9th of March? Best Chris

    11. Thanks, I must admit I have a really bad eye for the small details, so it is good to have someone to compare, Mine is sewn to the ribbon by the wearer (as far as I know), I think it was worn in his buttonhole like this, maybe civilian attire.
    12. yes! yes and yes :-) There is so much to learn from how the things are stamped!
    13. There used to be train of thought that said they were used for awards by the Kaiser, but as the kaiser awarded many crosses that is very unlikely. Also, the "Iron" of the cross was more or less sacred, so unlikely that the kaiser would be giving these out. I am guessing they were for whoever wanted to afford one... even back then it would not have been cheap....
    14. Hi, I think like with many discussions a thread developes in a number of directions with various points being discussed. I dont have the crosses needed to compare, I guess what is needed is one of the collectors who can recognise frames and cores at night 10m underwater ;-)
    15. Here is a thought.... how would that look after a month with another cross banging against it? it would have to be pretty chip resistant?
    16. A German soldier, buried alive still clutches his rifle. The human cost of war should remain in the foreground when researching documents and awards.
    17. Details of a map belonging to a Pionier Officer serving with the 1st Bavarian Division. It shows the progression of tunnels from the German (Blue) lines to the French (Red). The tunnels were finished on the 30th of November 1915 and detonated on the 8th of February near Neuville St-Vaast as the Germans and French fought for dominance of Vimy Ridge.
