Hi, a French collector confirms that this is a Bavarian schwerer Reiter with a non regulation green collar. It is a difficult Tunic to identify as the total number of men in the Bavarian Heavy Cavalry was just 2 battalions, or just two thirds the size of an infantry regiment. Each of the two Regiments was under 700 men, about the size of an Infantry Battalion. I found one period color drawing of an officer wearing this kind of jacket with the same piping and swedish cuffs, unfortunately he is attached to the Flying branch and he is just described as a beobachter. If the original owner had been happy with a field grey collar it would have been easier, but all in all I am pretty happy... they may not have been infantry, but its better than artillery :-) The Nigel Thomas book says "The two bavarian Heavy Cavalry Regiments (1 and 2) had Bavarian Infantry Uniforms, but the M1909 heavy cavalry field tunic had swedish cuffs..."

Indeed it is, I picked it up a few years ago from a well known MG fanatic in Alsace :-)

The really nice thing about this one is the good condition of the original green paintwork underneath...

Hi Andreas, in the Leiber History it says Für die Offiziere wurde der Ring in etwas andere Ausführung geschaffen. Der von professor Schegerle modellierte silberne Ring zeigt einen Löwenkopf. Innen ist der Ring vergoldet und trägt das Monogram ILR. It seems it was for just under 60 officers.

The Ring is my dream... it was exclusively for people who had a certain amount of real combat time (I think it was 24 months? I forget... when i am back near my books I can look)... I would kill for an other ranks one, and kill twice for an officers one (Have not even seen a pic of the latter!!!)

Indeed, there was some kind of agreement with POWs over a certain age that had been POWs for a certain period of time could be sent to switzerland.... apparently the conditions were often harsher than the POWs camps they had been in up until then.....
