Imperial Russia An interesting pair
Chris Boonzaier replied to Ed_Haynes's topic in Russia: Imperial
I think there are many unique things in the world that remain at low prices. The "Kalahari 1907" bar was awarded about 50 times (?) and it took Huesken a flew years to move it at EUR700 (god knows how few of those are around) I think the prices of Russian awards like these are based on 1) The depth of the pockets of the fields collecting elite and 2) the fact that some of the collectors have limitless funds and dont care what they pay, as long as its "theirs" at the end of the day. Objectively, I am jealous as I cannot collect like that. Having read of a few militaria and antique dealers that have been rather violently robbed and or murdered by "collectors" from the east... I would hope for this dealers sake that he does not keep his stock in his apartment.... -
Hi, You are probably right, I thought I would add the theory as it seems to be accepted by a number of the French collectors. I wonder WHY they chose a cut out design, so different from the standard French bar? Best Chris

According to collectors on the french forum, the cut out bars were given to contingents who were in Zaire at the time of the award. The contingents who had already returned to France got this...

Hi, we met some advisors there, I assume to them? According to the regulations it was not only limited to Shaba.

Hi, a nice group indeed. 2 thoughts on this 1) The Zaire bar for the Outre mer... I was in Zaire for Operation Baumier which was the only action I know of with a bit of shooting since Shaba. We did not get the Zaire bar. I understand the bar was awarded 78-early 90s... but often wonder... "to who!?!?" I can only think that it was to attached military advisors. A small number indeed. 2) I think Eitze's bar could very well be seen being worn. I imagine in the case of lost medals it would be impossible to get a set of cut out ones anymore. They are in no way as desirable as cut outs, but in te wa of french medals, still TTA. Best Chris

I saw a Outre mer with Tchad and Madagascar bars. He must have just have bought one for wear and not really taken note. best Chris

Indeed, but they were longer lengths, most of the others are short... ANNNNNNND... An ebay seller sells repro ribbon that glows... he said I should wait a while as he is getting non glowing ribbon made...... I thought I should get some nice original before that hits the market. 3 lengths for EUR15 all in all is good.

A guy who had the colonial medal was still serving and recieved a medal Outre Mer with a bar or two? 1) Did he wear both ? (I dont think so as the colonial and Outre Mer are basically the same medal, just 2 versions 2) Did he add the Outre Mer bars to his colonial? 3) Did he change his colonial for an outre mer and put all the bars on that? Best Chris
