That heer belt buckle, any paint on it anywhere? in any case, yes, the detail is terrible, the buckles coming out of china have more detail, and paint! I have several heer buckles made that way, and from China, the china ones have a lot more detail.

Those shoulder straps could be for a civilian employed by the German army, who were allowed to wear uniforms, in this case, a Beamten general, the shoulder straps are configured to wear on a white summer tunic, they slot into the shoulder seam, then the screw in buttons hold them in place.

Just thought I would add this scan of reproduction insignia, give collectors an idea of what is out there these days.

Hello all, an update, royal mail now says item was delivered on 15/6/2010 (just contacted 'signed for' office this morning), but no word from Andrew, I'll have to wait for my credit card statement see if he has reimbursed me or not. regards Pikestaff.

hello all, hope this is the right place. I recently bought this from UK MILITARIA, the strange thing is, as soon as I put the order in, the pictures and legend were deleted from the sight, other items marked as sold remand on site. highest regards Pikestaff

2 chinscales have fallen off, 3 are missing anyway, so I think something ought to be done, the rest will fall off eventualy. How do I ask a moderator? regards Pikestaff

Yep, just taken it out of the display cupboard, bead is there alright, the front peak rivets are not later additions, so peak and dome are comtemperary[wheres the spelling thingy?] So it could be a firemans helmet then? is that why the chinscales join with a buckle instead of the 'hole and hook'? Some of the chin scale steel 'rivits' are falling apart now, they are so rusty the brass scales just drop off, make completly new leather backings? I have plenty of nice soft 'orthopedic pearl' leather, thin too. regards Pikestaff

I hope so too! the thing is with the peak and shell is that if I try to sew them back to-gether as they are, the end rivits will be in the wrong place, it looks like the shell would have to be stretched to fit the peak. regards P

hello, perhaps that join is a feature of firemans helmets? and only for firemans helmets? from the way the peak on this helmet is hanging on, I think it might not be original to it, as the 'dome' has shrunk well away from the peak, and no bits on peak sewing cotton remain anywhere, as well as being a 'wreck. its aslo a 'parts' helmet?

Hello. according to all the sites I visited, its a Bavairan police helmet, shape of the spike, the rossette on the left hand side, all seem to point that way, nice pictures by the way. regards Pikestaff
