    3. Not yet quite sure quite how common Nevsky's really are for the Japan offensive. But here's a Nevsky awarded to one Senior Lieutenant Grigori Vasilievich Trushkov. 4. And for those of you who think that this pattern was restricted to helmets alone...... http://home.tiscali.nl/wd16h/Malta%20colourscheme.htm Jim
    5. Not the easiest thing to come by, but I've had this one for quite a few years. Its a 1939 helmet that was done up back in the war to the very interesting and unique Malta camoflauge pattern. This usually entailed painting the helmet in a lighter sand coloured paint (often mixed with sand), and then darker brown stripes painted around it, emerging from a brown "ring" at the top. Some examples include the maltese flag, others do not. Jim
    6. Interesting. I myself never came across a double award of Nakhimov or Ushakov! Jim
    7. Try giving answers not asking for hints Christian. Otherwise its too easy....and it is easy actually! Jim
    8. Dunno about Andrew - I have not touched base with him in yonks..... or with many others . But I am back to a 12 hour working day at the moment!! Neither have I had the time to buy a medal in a good 6 months!!! Sometimes life really goes to the dogs when you cannot spend as much time on the things and the ones you love. Mmmm... that gives me food for thought once again.... wondering I got myself stuck in the rat race again! Jim
    9. In post war Russia, one particular incident resulted in seven people being proposed for the highest title of the Soviet Union. However, following investigation, they never went on to receive their title. Specifically: What bound these people together? What was the incident that earned them this nomination? Why did they not receive the title? Good luck. Jim:cheers:
    10. I was fascinated by the ribbon when I first saw at as I believe this is the only soviet russian ribbon of its sort with a design as opposed to being clean red or striped. Perhaps the departure from stripes would have been too radical. But nevertheless, in what turns out to be a hotch potch of ribbon suspensions, screwbacks, and medal sizes, it would have made for yet another interesting glitch! I'll try to post a question over the next day or so! Regards Jim
    11. 5 sided suspension of the trial variation of the 800 Year anniversary of Moscow coined/struck in 1946 showing Yuri Dolgoruki on horseback (obverse) with Kremlin on reverse. However this was replaced by the official 800 year anniversary medal we all know with the close up relief potrait of Yuri Dolgoruki on the obverse and an almost identical reverse. The official medal would be coined/struck in 1947. You would not have this in your collection hein? Regards, Jim
    12. Pity indeed - But at least it did indeed remind me of the episode in Blackadder goes Forth when the General's pet pigeon was served for dinner....and the ensuing Court Marshal! I asked only to edit the title of the thread once the lapel pin was identified. Regards, Jim
    13. Thanks for the link Johnsy! Interesting indeed to see and read about the Irish fleet! Seeing that you know your way around navies, any chance of posting other black ars-ed ships? I was trying to find others but my search was not very revealing! Jim
    14. Oh... erm... we might be collectors interested in treasuring studying and researching the orders of your country. Erm...Gospodin Putin, where do we go about applying for a special permission? - Ironic no?! Jim
