Hey Mervyn,
that offer was done like a year or even more ago, by someone of a local forum, no one from GMIC!!
The medal is here to stay, as so many other items I need to research, so please do not expect much progress in a short while.
But one never nows, it often happens that during some searchs other mistery's get solved....
Thanks for your intrest.
cheers

I wouldn't expect the plain , casted one to be used on uniform parts.
I know to little about them, to say what they are, but I can say that many where made in later periods for "reenactments " during different periodes; many processions of religious or other characters were held on a annual base all over Belgium and many Napoleonic uniforms appeared in them.
I am a button collector and now of many different patern's of "imperial guard " buttons, made for that purpose.

I didn't know they existed until I found thise one.The particularity of the well know German reservist pipe is decorated with a Belgian cavalryman in hise between wars uniform, with the mention "souvenire du camps d'Elsenborn".
The camp of Elsenborn used to be a Prussian military camp in the late 1800 and was handed over to Belgium by the Treaty of Versailles. So the Belgians seems to have took everything ...also the traditions!0 -
There a additional info I can give;, one of the officers of the LZ was a Belgian with German roots who always lived in Ghent before the war.

First one I see!
Thanks for sharing.
Belgians had a similar medal for tribe chiefs in Congo.
They were given in a later periode, from end 19 th century untill 1950 and fetch prices like 250 to 500 euro.

Or what my wife refears to as "scrap"....
;-)
It needs some restoration, but never the less I like it as it is.
These are parts of a Zeppelin that got shot down , above Ghent, by a Britsh plane, killing 29 German soldiers and crashed on the "Normaal " school of ST Amandsberg on the 17 june 1915 at 03.00 o clock of the morning.
So says the handwritten legend coming with it.LZ.37 was intercepted in the air by R. A. J. Warneford in his Morane Parasol, he dropped six 20 pounds (9.1 kg) Hales bombs on the zeppelin which caught fire and crashed into the convent school of St. Amansdsberg. 2 nuns were killed and the entire crew of the Zeppelin also died except for one man. Flight S/L Warneford was awarded the Victoria Cross for his achievement. As a further consequence of the raid both the Army and Navy withdrew from all bases in Belgium; the vulnerability of such sites was now clear.

Here, at the back (top) of my display cabinet you can see a original zinc stencil that was used to paint the destination on the lugage that had to be shipped to Congo.
