    1. Amazing. I looked more closely and my copy (truly it is a copy and a fake) is numbered 10439 thus the one on the web site was the master for the mold. No wonder it looked familiar. Ron
    2. This was all very enlightening, particularly the manufacturing technique. I am glad I posted this one. Ron
    3. My thanks for the comments and observations. This will go in on my next research order. I have hopes that at least the citations on his WW2 awards will show up and shed some light on his naval service. Ron
    4. Got it. The differences are clear. Many thanks. I knew there was a good reason why I stayed away from these orders when I was in my Russian Medal Feeding Frenzy. Thanks Ron
    5. Thanks for the comments. I have always assumed this was a copy (it came on a generals dress uniform I acquired). I was looking at a New York dealers web site today and there was a Suvorov 3rd with a close S/N that looked a lot like this one. Mine has been worn and polished and the enamel is gone. I do not like the look of the screw post but I can not see a lot of difference between it and pictures of later issued "certified" ones. I was interested in what other eyes could see. Ron
    6. This group is next in line for research. The group is to Vasiliy Baranov and I understand that the issue authorities of the later medal documents indicates counter intelligence assignments. If this is true, I hope it does not preclude research. Ron
    7. My thanks to all for the prompt guidance. Groups like you help put the fun back into collecting. As soon as my high speed internet connection get back up, I will start posting my researched groups and medals from about 5 years ago when I was in my Soviet medal frenzy. Ron
    8. Here are my other candidates; RB 89350 RB 354569 RS 714684 Valor 444954 Combat Service 1st type suspension 293832 My HSU 688 is already at the top of the list for a full lookup. Thanks, Ron
    9. THis forum has re ignited my enthusiasm for researched Soviet orders and medals. I dug out my footlocker of Soviet stuff and have come up with some items I am considering for research. I would appreciate any opinions on which ones are good candidates and at what level (medal record card only or MRC and citation or .....). My first candidate is a RB and PW2 pair with the orders book. The orders book looks like it went through a war and has been recovered.
    10. [attachmentid=49920]Are the HSL's researchable? I had such great results with my HSU recently tht I thought I would give this one a try. I have just the medal and no paperwork unfortunately. The number is 11371 who I believe puts it in the 70's. Any comments of guidance would be appreciated. Ron
    11. [attachmentid=49859]Here are the picture of Hero Star 688. My understanding is that it has had the suspension replaced (not uncommon on these early ones). Ron
    12. Darrell, thank you so very much. This is a very exciting. Ron
    13. Wow, this is great news and my thanks. I finally know who this medal was issued to. Now if I can just get the information translated. I will try to post the pictures today. Ron
