I found these at a flea market and was hoping for some help in identifying them. Looked in my reference guides, online and so forth but didn't find any confirmation. Posted on the British and Colonial Police part of the forum but also thought that someone here might be able to help. Thank you. Regards, Chris

Good Afternoon Found a shoulder title today that looks East African. Couldn't find anything about it in Owens or Cursons. I think it's East African Mounted Rifles but I could be mistaken. Did an internet search as well, found a bit about the EAMR but no pictures to help me confirm. Hoping for some insight from the members here. Regards, Chris

Hey all Got some information from a friend that sort of gives on outline on Natal Cavalry Volunteers. The snippet shows the belt buckle and pouch badge with a bit of an explanation. Seen both come up in previous auctions lately, which is what piqued my interest as I had never heard of this unit before. The pouch and pouch badge came up in an auction in Johannesburg and the belt buckle at one in Cape Town. Got some pictures of the one auction lot. Quite a few rare badges included with the belt. Regards, Chris

Thank you for the replies. An interesting read there Graham. Would that mean that the Volunteer Cavalry were an independent regiment or unit of the Natal Volunteers and were in existence sometime between 1854 and 1912 or that it was part of say the Natal Carbineers or Natal Mounted Rifles or even a predecessor of these regiments? Thanks, Chris

Good Evening Brought these badges on auction the other day. I don't think anyone saw them as I got them at the unbelievably expensive price of R1... The officers silver enameled badge is hallmarked silver JR Gaunt and Sons Birmingham 1915. I think it's for full/ceremonial dress uniform and the other brass version for normal dress. Can't believe how perfect the enamel still is. No cracks or missing paint. Anyone able to shed some light on the King Edward's Own 6th Cavalry? I also see they have another cap badge for this period, can someone explain the difference? I'll include a picture of that one for comparison if needed. Regards, Chris

Good Afternoon Was hoping for some help regarding the attached pictures of some badges I picked up today. I think the one set belongs to the Indian 7th Lancers and apparently was something to do with the horse harness.. Any input on the 'CMB' shoulder title would be appreciated. Is it a mounted battalion, a medical battalion or something else? Regards, Chris

Good Afternoon Obtained this medal a couple weeks back. Came with WW2 medals to either his son or grandson. Thought it strange that the ribbon is incorrect but original but also sewn together so it was done purposefully. From what I can gather, he served in the Ladybrand Commando and is on the POW roll as well. Perhaps he was entitled to a wound ribbon too? Struggling to get hold of the Defense Archives in Pretoria to get his Form A and B at the moment, thus I've decided to obtain the documents from another source. Hopeful to see what information turns up from that.. Enjoy the pictures.

Hi Gentlemen, Yes, it is 11th Squadron of the SAAF. That much I know. Trying to find out what the plaque may have been used for. The following pictures below are from the book. Van Schalkwyk, Piet and Marshall William 2000. South African Colours and Markings Volume 1 Number 2, Colours and Markings Publications, Pretoria.

Took a bit of a gamble with this one. Didn't know exactly what it was when I saw it but the bird and the cross backing narrowed it down to World War Two Rhodesian. Number 3021 in Owens.. Has a pin backing, would that classify as a 'sweetheart brooch' or is my thinking correct that many of the Officer's Mess Dress items had such backings?

Hi All Found a Boer War QSA yesterday. To a Richmond Town Guard. However, when I check the man's name on the roll, he comes up as Warrenton Town Guard. I see no evidence of a name change. Is it possible he changed during the war? Anyone have access to the full medal roll. I used AngloBoerWar.com.. Name appears on medal as 24 Pte M Raath Richmond TG. Regards, Chris

Picked up an interesting WW2 pin badge today. Definitely SAAF but don't quite know exactly what squadron or wing it relates to. I'm thinking it's 5th Wing, which was the transport wing of the SAAF, who I imagine had a detachment at Juba which was one of the staging points along the route from South Africa to Cairo. Anyone else have some ideas?
