    1. This is a youth diamond pin. I couldn't tell a lot from the photo. It looks right from what I can see. I asked if it had the fish scale look and he said it did not but he felt that it was a good one. But, as you say, I need to inspect it. Michael
    2. So if you run across one with the solid color how do you know that it's not a postwar diamond? What do you look for? Michael
    3. Hi all. I was always under the impression that a correct diamond pin will have a "fish scales" look to the red enamel. Is this a standard or does it vary and the red have a more solid appearance? Michael
    4. Thank you sir. I'm going to do that and see what I can find. As far as buying a copy for less than $300, not me I'm afraid. I'm too cheap. I wouldn't spend over $20 for a copy. But that's just me. I would want the real deal. I wish that I could remember the site where I found that naval badge. I think they had it listed at around $1,800. But, like I say, there's no way that I'd buy it anyway. I'd just post the link and let everybody go look at it. I might try to see if I can find it again. Have a good one. Michael
    5. Thanks John. Being a newcomer to the hobby I had no idea they were that rare. Although, I guess I should have had an idea. This badge is on Ebay and the seller is considering it an original, although he's leaving himself a way out by saying that he can't be 100%. As far as the other one I found, I don't have that kind of money anyway so it wouldn't be a question of do I want it or not. And even if I did, I wouldn't be careless enough to spend that kind of money without doing my homework. That's what's nice about these forums. You can get the opinions and feedback from those, like yourself, who have been doing this a lot longer and have more experience. Thanks again. Michael
    6. Thank you sir. Without even knowing anything about these I was thinking it was a copy. Would you have any recommendations for a research tool like a book or something? Michael
    7. Hi all. I found this badge for sale and was wondering what you think. I'm interested in learning about various badges of WW1. I've not been able to find much on these except one place has a naval version that they have priced at well over $1,000. I question the authenticity of this badge. Can anyone educate me? Mike
    8. Thanks Erich. I have received an education in these badges the last few days. The one on the left is a bronze badge. I looked closely at the crevasses and I could see the remains of the aged, chocolate colored bronze finish. The other is also a bronze because, if you look at the reverse, you can see that the pin and clasp have the bronze finish. Michael
    9. Sorry if they aren't big enough. I don't know how to decrease the size enough for the available downloading space and still keep the larger picture. Michael
    10. I agree. I wondered about that too. I had found another set that were being sold as a matched set when they obviously weren't. But the diff on these was so slight that I thought they had a good chance of being what they were presented as.
    11. Oh, I didn't see the last part. Sorry. No, they were being presented as originals.
    12. Thanks Paul. That's what I thought too. But, in just the past month, I've learned quite a lot about just how much fake and reproduction stuff there is out there. It's scary. I've slowed way down on buying anything anymore unless I check it out very carefully. Michael
    13. Hello everybody. This might be a silly question but I was wondering how to tell for sure whether you have a gold, bronze, or silver sports badge. The one on the left looks exactly like those I see that are called gold. Bronze seems to be a deeper color than mine. The other one looks like silver to me but I have seen some like this called bronze. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Michael
