Good day,
I'm an enthusiastic collector of cap tallies and have been specialised to MHJ tallies for more than a decade. However, I resumed to collect the other German pre-45 tallies due to a poor offer on MHJ tallies.
I more or less agree completely with your last post, Odulf, but the part "Alterations of April 1940" you need to explain a bit.
I have gathered information of close to 700 different Mhj tallies being existant at the time. Also I have more than 160 Mhj tallies in my collection. And another 300 different tallies on period photographs.
I never came across a genuine Mhj tally with golden or yellow lettering. Three comments to this:
1. The Berlin tallies for sale at a dealer in Hamburg have originally white lettering and were painted over yellow. I have eyeballed them myself when they were still with the owner prior to the dealer.
2. The "Frw. Wehrfunk Gruppe Marine" is Gold on blue, but this was a group of Mhj participants under the umbrella of the Km for the duration of the course.
3. The very early gold-on-black "HJ Oberbann Berlin West" is believed to have belonged to Kriegsmarine liaison personnel.
Could you please clarify where you conclude from the lettering has been changed to gold-on-blue ever?
Rgds
Daniel
