    1. Hi Gents i know there’s a section for books but.... It’s quite a serious read that has kept (still is keeping) me quiet... you gents may know it all already but there is some great detail. tony
    2. Hi Gents just a quick one... The final resting place of a Russian soldier. it is a German Rppc dated 22 August 1916 Sent home from RIR 219 , 6 Komp reverse tony
    3. Hi Gents An elderly Gentleman with no family passed away recently in Wrexham, North Wales. During his house clearance a ‘lead filled, hobnailed trench club and a Austro Hungarian ‘knife in a sheath’ were found together..... they are on their way to me.... Fingers crossed they are as good as they sound......!! pictures asap gents tony
    4. Hi Gents I picked this up recently..., To me, it appears to have a breakdown of prisioners taken up until the 1st November 1914. Again, to me, it looks as though written in Munich on the 8th November and stamped the same day. It also has a postal stamp. It is not marked Feldpost and doesn’t seem to be an official correspondence. the numbers quoted are: 3138 officers and 188618 men French 3121 officers and 186779 men Russian 537 officers and 34907 men Belgian 417 officers and 15730 men English total: 7213 officers and 426034 men Overall total: 433247 At a glance the ratio of officers is far higher for the Brits at about 1:40 compared to about 1:60 for the French and Russians, nearer 70 for the Belgians.... Rough maths but quite a difference I think.... ——————— Hope you like Gents tony
    5. Hi Gents i’m busy reading a book, requires my full attention, hence no pictures of late.... but just thought I’d sneak one in.... annotated : Galicia 25/6/17 back posting asap cheers Gents tony
    6. Hi Gents glad I went for it.... After some gentle TLC ( cheers Ian) It turns out there is still a little gold on the front and more left on the back An officers tactical badge I believe. tony
    7. Cheers Peter It is lovely isnt it, I’m glad you like it. t. ———-....:-/::;/—— Being from 1944, the armoured corps shield is a solid thing in every sense , it looks chiselled and bold, it feels made to last. Suits the time. In contrast, the work on this RHA plaque is fine, like the depth of a Stanley knife cut. Each block making up the border takes 4-6 cuts. I would guess this was made in happier post war setting. maybe for someone far away from home on National service I would like to think this was hanging behind a bar somewhere... tony
    8. Thanks Ian. Appreciated.... It did look better the next day... so I went for it. I will post a pic or two once I’ve got it tony
    9. Hi Gents does anyone have an opinion on this one please ? it does look different to the example above... thanks gents tony
    10. Hi Gents I thought I’d add this here. I bought it from the same guy as the one for the 27th armoured. This also came from a house clearance. it is sad to think how many such things might be thrown out.... —-/- This is a momento presumably dating from between 1936 and 1952. The badge is of the Royal Horse Artillery during the reign of HM King George VI (1936-1952) It reads: ’Q’ (SANNA’S POST) ANTI TANK BTY 4th ROYAL HORSE ARTILLERY It has a simple period frame and is glassed to the front. I think it was made abroad - just the one piece - then bought home and was framed. The back of the wood is uneven and marked but the front is finished and flush . It’s been hand crafted. All the details have been carved in, quite lightly but with some skill. I googled Sanna’s Post and it relates to the Boer war. Q Battery acquired their ‘name’ for their actions during this battle. I would love to, but i cant summarise the story, as there is so much to include or omit. It is a great story. Maybe only new to me..... I hope you like it Gents.... tony
    11. I’m pretty sure the four pictures have been found together. However maybe the group pic isn’t related. I’m surprised to think that, if they still wore recognisable Uhlan uniform, that they wouldn't mark the crosses with some reference to it. Mind you - after 100 years.... cheers gents tony
    12. Hi Gents just posted these elsewhere and thought should go here too... tony
    13. Hi Gents Sadly. nothing on the back of either of these. First one- I'm guess it’s not that clear in the picture but I’m thinking there is a badge tucked in between a 1908 jubilee and a red ribboned merit cross ? In real world, with an eyepiece, it’s looks like the badge has an Hungarian crown with the same overall design that I’ve seen on belt buckles... ~~~~~ and this next one looks to me like the medal has been hung on an existing ribbon bar thread already on the uniform.? is it a plain merit cross on bravery ribbon? is that likely as a first medal for a man of his rank? i recall, in a recent thread, mention that studio props (equipment/uniform) were provided sometimes for use ...... anyway - here he is... Hope you like Gents tony
    14. Hi Gents thanks all for your replies... hi Alex... they certainly do count! Great find. Very nice..... Out of the 10, is that 7 or 8 you've got? Are they still in the booklet ? Hi Bayern, GreyC Of course you both know i never have noticed that! Do you think then, that the photo I missed is related to the Grave markers? They were ‘together’ all this time. Not bought from a military dealer. Bought from a postcard seller. And if you wouldn’t mind....I wonder now... Would dismounted Ulanen have been reassigned to an Infanterie regiment or retained their own identity? i would guess the latter? Thanks as always.... tony
    15. Hi Gents there were four pictures of the 2 M.G.K. of the 30.b Inf reg for sale separately..,. I managed to get these three but not all . I missed out on a nice group pic. Separated in the real world now but I’m going to include a screen shot (apologies to the new owner) of it with the these. I wonder if it was taken before or after the others.... the closeness of dates indicates a difficult time... tony

    19. Hi Gents that last one is a ‘funny’ one isn’t it. not everyone in the crowd looks that happy.... and i would have asked if it’s ‘Kaiser Karl’ as well, certainly looks like. ~~~~~<< Hello1812 Overture ... is there anything at all on the reverse of this last one please? tony
