Help with binoculars
Farkas replied to The Prussian's topic in Preservation & Restoration of Military Artifacts
Hi The Prussian just a thought, it's a long shot though... but perhaps if it's just the actual glass lens' you need? Maybe these on eBay have the same size? As I said... long shot! Best of luck with your search tony -
Hi Gents these 3 were part of a group of six bought in the seventies. All have marks of sorts. One has had much more use with the inside being scratched and rough. top left is most used. One on top right least used. Stamped... possibly dated on strap as 18 Hope you like them, tony

Ribbon bar incl. Mecklenburg and Elizabeth Medal
Farkas replied to Farkas's topic in Austro-Hungarian Empire
Brilliant! Thanks Tifes i knew I stood to be corrected... i should have googled Elizabeth Medal first... I am having a chuckle! i have just bought a ribbon book (in shot) and identified the Mecklenburg ribbon for the first time. It looked familiar and I dug my ribbons out to investigate- found it-- I had thought previously it was probably a vet or civilian award because I had the trifold ribbon, but I didn't find it. -----//: I'm surprised the 1908 is ordered before 1912/13 too. (Re Significance though not datewise) Thanks again Tifes tony -

Hi Gents "A little knowledge is more dangerous than none...." I'm always happy to be corrected and as you may know it happens. i'm starting to think like you guys..... if medal 3 was a 1908 jubilee then wouldn't it be after the 1912/13 mobilisation? And wouldn't he have length of service awards? So I hesitantly believe it is the ribbon for the Elizabeth medal. The white stripe is so thin compared to the red one. the bar is good quality. Ribbons 2,3 & 4 barely underlap. They are trimmed on their left so I don't see any reason, or evidence, that number 3 is trimmed on the visible right hand side. Any thoughts welcome as always.... tony

Hi Chris thanks for looking. I didn't realise it was 'civilian' issue so to speak. That settles that for me, thanks. with regards to the fate of the man.... the family members and friends left waving off my family at the train station were never seen again. So. As you say, the chances are , the man who signed this probably faired no better.... tony

Fortunately perhaps?? i wish I had more.... My Grandfather carried a camera during his service. Apparently wads of graphic photos survived war and travel until 1968. My Dad used to tell me of his horror at finding they were all destroyed upon his Dads death. My Nan had always hated them! But... 2 years ago I found his ID card, pin badge for the 83rd and some Rppc that survived. Treasure!! once I've contributed a bit more I'll be shouting about him from the rooftops..... 4.44am so Best wishes Sir. tony

Hi Gents im hoping to add the signature below to the all eras signature database.... but I need a name for that to happen. i would never put money on this being possible but if it can be done by anyone.... it's the GMIC who can.... this is personal- this paperwork was issued to my Grandmother and enabled my Dad and his family to leave Vienna for Kenya. there is not much to go on but no harm trying.... I'd appreciate thoughts either way if possible. thank you Gents tony

Hi Gents ive had these a while... I no longer remember what the round one is but the other I have noted as a ww2 reservist badge. I probably wouldn't post these except I understand the reservist badge is a nice example. I seem to recall that it is an early example with a thicker pin than the later ones..... tony
