    1. Hi GreyC it has the first bit obscured but I can make out the following.... ...... ST EMIL RUB ----- INF BATL GIESSEN (Cross) 31.5.17 the card wasn't posted but there is an annotation written on the back. ill try and get a decent scan of the back added this evening Thanks for looking GreyC tony
    2. Hi gents could you just confirm please.... gesterbon -- gest --died gesehen - - ges-- seen and please what is vereinigte schlauh und gummiwaren fabrik thanks tony (( I am keeping notes!))
    3. Hi Gents how bout this....? the society that received the card got it and then on each occasion he visited or was seen the date was noted. And rank updated along the way..... ------- ? Could 'gesehen' translate as 'seen' in that sense? in this case meaning 'he's been seen' ...?? tony EDIT which means he probably died early 1917. and maybe punch holes are period as he was filed away....?
    4. Hi Gents Thanx for input all. Does Gesetzlich mean approved / passed ... something like that? Google search gave me : legal/legitimate ... so basing it on that.... tony
    5. Hi Gents Sadly no medals anymore but there were once... lines up the same height as the Medals on that great link for uniform earlier tony
    6. Hi Chip i couldn't agree more bout the targets... I reckon this wise man has removed both. I think I can make out the circles on the above close up.... tony
    7. Morning GreyC sounds like I wrote it! ill try and sort a better image.... nice one tony
    8. Morning Chris glad you like it.... i had a giant mate, years ago. (b4 mobiles!) When you were out (and got lost) in a club the agreed meeting point was always him. He was never alone. Can't remember his name but he was really really tall!! ---/--- Hi Gents I think that it is a design from 1905. Sadly the postage stamp is steamed off which has taken the post mark date with it. Also the back is in pencil- faded -and I can't distinguish the date. here's the back regardless tony
    9. Hi Gents one of mine to share.... hope you like it tony
    10. No way! that explains a lot ! of what i was just reading.... In fact then -his name was Josef Schippers..... Wish I could read German! Thanks Andreas tony (((I should probably consider always adding question marks to finish my sentences)))
    11. Hi Gents i like this one but not sure what it is! my best guess is it is post from 'home' that has been re-used to keep records of something... With an British eye it looks like Gas followed by dates going into 1917.... in German it may be obvious I'm wrong! either way it's a great looking card with a lovely stamp tony
    12. Hi Bayern i guess it must have been possible with the break up of AH in 1918 to decide what identity you adopt? Would an 'Austrian' have commanded more respect from society than the 'rest' of the nations you mention? i'm Welsh and therefore also British but I could never officially be English. I'm often considered as such when abroad though - English/British often considered one and the same.! one last quirk- my Nana (the only grandparent I met) was born in Poland, was in her own words Polish and yet if born today she would be considered Ukrainian! It's a funny old world! -------- you are in Argentina? do you mind me asking Bayern, if you were born there or have travelled yourself? tony
    13. Such a shame that EBay have absolutely no interest in weeding out the fraudsters. cheers both tony
    14. Hi jf42 Thanks for your info.... to be honest if the great and good on this forum can't 'locate' my man I don't expect anyone else too! i mailed the museum to offer the busby to them for display... i keep see-sawing between the wish to keep it, and, a feeling it's of more note than that and, therefore, maybe deserves displaying somewhere....., All my friends think I'm mad but I can't shift the feeling....! i didn't know of the NWM in Edinburgh- I'll try them next if no reply from these. fingers crossed thanks again tony
    15. Hi tony Yes mate and a non ending supply of capture art helmets! Sounds like the same guy.... tony
    16. Hi gents i messaged the Cameronians Museum the other day(night) and got an auto reply. if I get a further response I will update you.....! tony
    17. Hi Gents penny for your thoughts on these please... Does anyone know if these are genuine or not ? I've watched few sellers on eBay. One guy sold 3 of these in six months. ! the last screen shot is just now...Considerable price diff at present- are people cottoning on?? so I'm curious are they that common? Surely not..... tony -------- ((( For the record- I'm not accusing anyone. i do use eBay but I hate some on there who blatantly mislead and profit without consequence. not saying this is the case)))
    18. Hi Bayern, ive only just seen your question so apologies for delay... yes indeed! My Father was born in Vienna so I always considered myself to be half Austrian and half Welsh But Then i found my paternal grandparents birth certificates at my Mums and it showed my Grandfather was born in Zalaegerszeg, Hungary. So just knowing that, made me feel that little bit more Hungarian! tony
    19. Thanks Gents, i'll have a look for some more. there is something about each of them I think... tony
