Lovely Godet bar with their trademark "license plate" tag.
I have NEVER seen the gold class Merit Medal with Crown before. It's on a peacetime ribbon, so most likely for some sort of war merit. God knows what rank "NCO" got it. I have never seen one before to even GUESS. As you say, no long service cross, so somebody with that sort of rank, "for war's duration?" A Beamter of some kind?
The highest Bulgarian medal you are thinking about is what this Colonel is wearing in 3rd place:
So: EXCEPTIONALLY nice medal bar.
A very nice photo of a Bulgarian officer. Rare to find photos of Bulgarians.

Hi guys,
This one arrived in the mail today.
I wasn't cheap, but I am very happy with it, seeing it is my first colonial medal, but definitely not the last.
Now onwards to find the Hass book.

Wow, that's a nice one...

Hello Gentlemen
Bison es quite right about the fact that up to the 1960s, both Grand Cross and Grand officers wore the same silver breast star.
To be quite precise about the distinction between these two ranks, one can add that the GC wore a large badge on a GC shoulder-r?bbon with the breast star on the left side, when the Grd Officer whore a simple Officer's badge with the breast star on the right side.
I peronnally am sorry the GC breast star was gilded. Looks too loud...

I agree, gilt color is not as attractive on this large size star as the silver is.

Well.... I went ahead and bought the Paris mint one.....
EUR130, but I figured it was now or never.....
I too have been on the "look out" for one of these but I'm not sure which one to buy.
colonial medals are very interesting but VERY confusing due to the vast number and styles of clasp.
Please, show us the new medal.
I'm a Foreign Legion buff so I'm a bit jealous, I was too Chicken Sh** to join so I joined the US Army which is actually more in line with my family history anyway.

Last step..... the Saudi medal....
Quality wise it is not bad... it is a symbol of medal making in the modern industrial age... not making them at the mint, but by a company that seems to specialize in key rings...
I assume the problem I have with this, is not that is intrinsically cheap, but that it somehow LOOKS cheap, and ultra modern.
I wait here with baited breath as on my recent tour to South East Asia I inquired about having one done in silver. Here in Europe that was waaay to expensive for my pocket, but in Singapore it was more affordable.... so I keep my eye on the postman......
Watch this space....
Chris, have you finished building your medal bar?

My First Legion of Honor Breast Star.
Grand officer or Grand Cross?
I got this about 10 years ago and another about 6 years ago. Both are the same and are silver. I don't think theres a difference from the grand officer and the grand cross until the 4th republic changed the grand cross to gold.
Please educate me if I'm wrong...

Gentlement, This is a Beautiful commander cross w/ swords, from Bulgary. It?s very Nice IMHO, but...
This is a mistery that I can?t explain yet. In every book I?read on the matter, the green cross is a commander class, WITH royal crown, and the Prince crown goes always with White enameled crosses...?
Any Hints?
WOW, Super decoration. I have a book on Bulgarian decorations. I'll look for it.
Send it to me when you are tired of it. I've been looking for one for about 5 years.

Thanks. Do you have similar images of the 1916 model of the order?
I'm looking for them. I'm not sure why but I'm missing most of my high res images. I did post all of my decorations of the Romanian forum a few years ago. I'll see if they're still posted there.

Can you post an image of the reverse as well as higher resolution images of both sides? Thanks.0

My 1916 version of the order.

I'm a huge fan of the Michael the Brave order and enjoy Romanian militaria collecting. I must say it's not commonly found these days, especially uniform items.
Does anyone on this forum collect Romanian uniforms or decorations?

Nice jacket with nice wear to the leather. That'll look nice displayed with a helmet and mask

Bulgaria sported some very attractive decorations.

I SEE IT IN MY BRAND NEW BOOK. I can read it unlike the scribble in the hand written entry you posted.

Ahhhhh!
So, does a TWO ribbon bar fit snugly there?
No loops for pinback awards?
No loops, I don't think he won the EKI unless he stopped wearing this tunic or was transferred to another unit. This tunic is super clean. I have this bar pinned on and gave it much thought and several looks before doing so. There's a small spot that looks like a ribbon bar pin once rested but I can't see the other spot anywhere.
I don't see any ribbons in the photo of him.

I'm psychic. He HAD to have had at LEAST an EK2, but did not get an Ernestine.
What have you actually GOT of his?
