#3 and #5 are especially nice. I'd like to pick up a few nice photos. You won't see anything close to those around my stompin ground.

I'll try taking better images. I am not good at taking digital photos of quality that are 110K or less.

Here's a new addition. It's a nice quality tunic with matching trousers for a Feldwebel-Leutnant of the 116JR

Here's the's in General in Tropical Uniform common to the area. Too bad he's in prison or we'd see more. This is the only photo I've seen of him in tropical other than him receiving his RK. I find none where he is wearing him ribbon bar after he was promoted above captain.

Here's an image of Georg Benthack. A volunteer in the Artillery who ended the war as a luetinant. He was reactivated in 1936 with the rank of Captain and ended the war as a Generalmajor commanding Fortress Crete.
I have a few phots of him and several documents.

Mike,
Memories sometimes are a cruel thing ......
My collecting memories only run back to the early 1990?s, and even that hurts, sometimes.
Regards,
Sandro
Yes, I agree. my story is not imperial German but the pain is the same. I met a man who fought in WW2 in No. Africa and Italy who had an impressive AfrikaKorps souvenir collection he was selling. Caps, a few tunics, insignia, palm tree from the door of a vehicle, pennants, etc. Very expensive at the time for a 11-12 year old but all real. I think EK1 were about $15.00 and the caps $50.00. My parents would not comply.
I also had a neighbor who was a WW1 vet who still had his uniform, medals, and a few German medals and helmet. I was too shy to ask for them but not my neighbor. My neighbor got them after mowing the man's yard for a summer.

The rarity is the W?rttemberg Goldene Milit?r-Verdienstmedaille, awarded 1,832 times to W?rttemberg junior officers.
The Friedrichs-Orden Ritter II. Klasse mit Schwertern was more common to junior officers - 5,000 awards to junior officers.
Daniel would know better, but I'd guess about 60% of the 2,200 or so W?rttemberg Milit?r-Verdienstorden RKs went to Hauptleute and below.
Then you'd have to get both the Bavarian MVO and the Austrian MVK, both relatively common for veterans of the Italian front and Romania, less so for others.
Some with similar combinations:
- Rommel: plM, WM3, WF3bX, WgMVM, BMV4X, ?M3K
- Theobald Lieb: WM3, WF3bX, WgMVM, HH, ?M3K (swap the Hamburg for the Bavarian, and the same but for the plM; Lieb also had the RKdEK with Oakleaves in WW2)
- Kurt von Greiff: plM, WM3, WF3bX, BMV4XmKr, WK3X, HHO3X
- Walther Fischer von Weikersthal: WM3, WF3aX, WgMVM, ?M3K; his BMV4 was without swords; also RKdEK in WW2
Thanks Dave,
I want to get my hands on the awards rolls of Wurttemberg among others.

What I have is a copy of an award document that doesn't seem to be listed as one of Benthack's awards on the few signs he is listed on.
I messed up. I can't seem to get the correct resolution to post here. It's readable until I resize it for less than 110

Who knows how many people earned the same wartime awards as Erwin Rommel with the exception of the PlM?
I would assume his combination by not be that rare, especially for Wurttembergers

Pen pusher?
Oh, how can I find to what duty he was posted?

Hmm...
I doublechecked it, and I'm not saying it is him, but I found only one (!) suspect with this combination in the 1932 army RL: A certain
Hauptmann Kurt M?ller, #1.1.1923, in the Reichswehrministerium.
There were two Generals Kurt M?ller, but he is none of them. So I don't know what became of that Kurt.
Of course, there are other possibilities, a General with police service, for example.
Weren't the last three awards issued only by request and to anyone who applied? I see photos of high rankers wearing these but sometime one or two of them at the end, not all three. Also, Rommel and some other famous officers didn't wear any of them. WHY?

Bent? You mean curved to fit snugly on the wearer's chest?
Not really, just sent and no longer straight.

Hi,
Thanks. Those are two good sites but unfortunately the posted images seem to be the only two known photos of him on the web. The only known Benthack Tropical Uniform is his pow photo.
