I think Infanterie Regiment 40
This is a very interesting photograph for me for many reasons. First, Feldwebelleutnant is an unusual rank, second, the uniform looks 100% enlisted/issue. His Helmet and cover appear issue, well, most likely an NCO helmet but the cover looks issue. The breast badge is also catches my attention of unique.
I'd love to hear what others opine.

I've never seen such a weapon. I assume from the photo that its an infantryman's weapon.

This photo is most interesting to me. Should we discuss here or on a new thread?

Can you fellas show details of the equipment worn during 1915-16 period?
During assaults or offensive operations were backpacks worn.

looks to me a ww1 era tunic to me. What year was he promoted to Hauptmann?

Why confuse matters by insisting for oneself the title of 1 Generalquatiermeister? Seems very strange for a power staff officer and/or commander though I find Ludendorf to be a bit odd and self serving from whats I've read of this man.

Hopefully a new volume will be produced concentrating on field gray generals

Super examples
I want to find a really nice example to use with my display. So many of the ones found lately are in poor shape.

Nice to see photos mixed with real examples. Christophe, you always have very nice photos.
What's the award on Hanson's bar between the EK and HHO?

I think that's way out of line. Helmets are plentiful but extremely nice ones aren't but 1000 or more seems a bit high... Unless I'm selling one

Yes, interesting that this man is so wonderfully dressed out and no other awards. The railway award makes me wonder why he wasn't assigned to the railway troops; but, he was probably a long servicing reserve infantry NCO. So, why is there no R above the 40? Is it because he was assigned to IR40, not RIR40?
