I'd like to see as many examples of generals tabs as possible. I hope there are several members with examples.

Yeah, you really ought to ;-)

That's a nice photo? I can't tell if he's wearing collar tabs or not.
Nice find

my thoughts too.
Here's a similar tunic but its more of a M15 with a single breast pocket. The Bavarian has not french cuffs and the skirt pockets are straight.

Having read a lot lately it appears most of the units that are considered elite appear to be infantry and engineer/sapper units. I guess once the warefare became static in nature the cavalry didnt really produce any (may?) elite units.
Now if I'm wrong, please tell me...
I'd enjoy learning more of the cavalry.
I have several cavalry items but not muct at all gained from researching these units.
- Baden 22 Dragoon
- Thuringian 12 Hussar (Prussian I suppose)
- Prussian 3 Guard Ulan
- Wurttemburg 20 Ulan
You dont read much of artillery units being thought of as the best. I know there must have been great artillery units. If the size of the unit being considered is brigade or division level then all branches may be included.

The three I have narrowed down to but not sure.
Bernhard von Hartz
Karl Freiherr von Nagel zu Aichberg
Gustav Scanzoni von Lichtenfels
GenLt von Hartz seems the best bet, I think...

I wish!!!!
I've Ben researching and have narrowed it down a to few, I think.
He was a GenLt, a von, but not a Ritter Von, nor a PlM or Max-Joseph winner. He was an aristocrat from the Munich area.
I think it's von Hartz. I was hoping for forum help as its an exciting research project but I'm not fortunate enough to have a lot of research books like rank lists, etc...

von Bothmer in a 1916 Bavarian tunic. This one is without Collar taps.
Von Bothmer was awarded the PlM in 1917 so he's wearing a field grey Litewka or less possible, a pre-war Litewka in a color that closely matches field gray in B&W photo.

Unusual in two tone, or is it?

Prussian generals collar tab 1915

Did you ever find out anything about this tunic?

Personally, I imagine all sorts of tunics were worn off duty or behind the lines. Prussians are often seen in Uberrocks and we see photos of Bavarian Litewka being worn. I don't know how long the pre-war colored type were worn or how often an officer had a field grey version made but I would imagine it was more often than photos suggest. We can hope someone finds a nice Bavarian officers personal photo album showing the litewkas in wear.
The french had all sorts of tunic styles made during the transition from per-war to horizon blue as many offices assumed the regs would keep the same style but in Horizon Blue. I would imagine the same may have happened in 1915-16 when regulations were changing in Prussia and the Bavarians were making their own regs.

From the book by Verlag. We all know the book because its a super source for beautiful uniforms and headgear.
The general is wearing this tunic with two pockets so I' sure lots a variants exist.
One would assume members would have a plethora of photographs to share.

Most I've seen have no collar patches. Send it to me and I've look it over for a while.

Two pockets but silver collar tabs on this Bavarian generals tunic. I just cant find the other photo of the general I found with single pocket tunic.

Appears to be same cut. Look at breast pocket and the sleeve cuff

If he was promoted to LdR in 1916 in may be field great

I have seen what only could be field grey versions of this tunic in photos. I don't have a lot of books so rely on the web.

From the research I'm convinced this tunic and the other Bavarian uniform that came out of the families home outside Munich belongs for von Hartz.

It may be a field grey tunic cut like the old style

Great looking tabs. I love the way they look.
We really ought to have a thread called generals collar tabs and one called officer collar Litzen to show all those wonderful tabs from ww1 people have.
I have a few tunics with Litzen and I'm sure many have tabs removed from uniforms. Would be very informative.
