    1. The Research Gnomes ONLY have time in our lives for 1914-18. That is quite vast enough! But Daniel is also working on all Prussian Orders with swords or on either "Iron Cross" ribbon from AFTER 1871 to the end of the World War as an exception.

Also, I have done most of Lippe-Detmold's awards from 1816 on and Schaumburg's Honor Crosses from 1869. Seeheld is heroically labouring through Mecklenburg-Schwerin from the 1840s on--- simply because the rolls exist and were saved to be worked on together.

Peacetime awards are ONLY manageable at that sort of miniature single State level.

It has cost many thousands of National Currency Units and the labor of this decade to produce what the handful of us HAVE done. If it were cheap, or easy--

or there was ANY hope of actually "making a profit" from our labours...

there would be many many more volunteer Gnomes...

      There aren't.

While FUTURE generations may regard us as the von Hessenthals and Schreibers of our generation...

the CURRENT generation isn't buying our books. :banger: Everybody wants everything for free-- as if we are simply computers with all this data entered and sitting there for every demand and make it snappy. :speechless:

Actually, continuing the research that we ARE doing--with what it COSTS us in money, time, and effort...

is absolutely pointless from the point of "reward" for our efforts.

So-- we do what we CAN... when we CAN... with what we've GOT.

Anybody who'd like to join up and start their OWN insane slave labours--- welcome aboard!:cheers:

Let's start a fund for research. I'm sure donations would come in... I really appreciate all of the effort. I'm amazed becasue I could never have figured out the vKleist 3 place bar... :catjava:

    2. Hi Charles,

In the von Moser's book about Wurttemberg soldiers, we can find all the names of the officers who received the MVO and all the name of the owner of the GMMM.

Daniel works on rolls for the Crown Order and Friedrich Orders. I hope that this book will be published this year.

      Christophe

      Thanks Christophe.

Do you think most Wurttemburgers wore there MMO before their HHOx if they were awarded both? One of mt bars has the HHO before the MMO but the other is opposite.

    3. Thanks Sascha...

Rick, how'd you do that so fast? I have the rolls (5 books)

but how can you cross referenc ALL the names against the Ernestine. That's over 900 names right? You much have them listed electronically to do this.

You almost make me feel bad about myself because i can't formulate a method for researching these books. I only have 5, I must have been left out of the second round of books... :banger:

    4. Looks like a good one Charles.

Thanks Chip, it's really nice in person and has wear from use. Too bad he didn't have the EKI, the loops are spaced just right for the Flieger badge though. I'm trying to find a nice ribbon bar that'll be perfect for a man who has yet to receive the EKI.

I need to take better photos or the boards and take some of the reverse of the tunic.

BTW, I still haven't cleaned the LGR100 strap I have. I'm too chicken but I do think if I clean it using the process you gave me it'll look the same as the strap you sent me.

    5. How many holes are underneath? I don't think they wore unit ciphers or numbers on these, just the pips. So there should only be two single holes in the center line if he was a Rittmeister.

      No name label? :(

WW1 pips are not the same materials or size as WW2 ones... you may have quite a hunt to find four matching ones. They were larger and brass. I have odd singles in my lifelong odds and ends box, but not so much as a pair.

I'll admit I've never looked for any until now. I don't really collect misc bits but I know some do...

I would bet if everyone who had a spare or two to sell/give offered images we'll come up at least with a pair so the straps would at least have one pip each.

So this fellow could have been a Husar, Dragoon, or any other cavalry type?

    6. I agree that Kaliblau is "Potash-blue", but the normal English equivalent is Prussian blue. If you look it up in a German/English dictionary it is translated as Prussian blue. You won't find Potash-Blue in a standard English dictionary, but you will find Prussian blue. So we are both right! ;)

      Chip

      Okay,

I have the entire tunic now. I assume the piping is correct for Landwehr Cavalry.
