Can anyone give information or show images of Oberstleutnants Christl of 13. k.u.k Infanterie Regiment?
I have interest in this man after seeing his tunic and a few effect offered for sale. I'm trying to acquire some of of his stuff.

Ya know, Einem looks like Max von Sydow...

Great work and a fantastic resolution. The von Einem family was one of the grand old Adelsgeschlechts of Prussia, hence the seemingly endless number of members. If you think that family is confusing, try one like the von der Schulenburg.
Amazing work...

Hi Brian,
Thank you for the consistent positive comments and remarks which make the effort worth-while in posting items on the site. I intend posting photographs of my complete collection when I go to South Africa again.
Regards,
Will
Very nice helmet.
What are you doing in Sudan?

Hessen
Are the Hessen boards backed in yellow or white? Looks to be yellow.

I appreciate you posting an example of a shoulder board.

Thanks Chip,
I am referring to the officer boards. I don't know how to tell early field grade and general from war time or early war. I have read some think the larger officer straps were worn by royalty.
Rick,
Thanks for posting the cockades. I need to look at my Hesse Cockade again to see how it compares to the one posted. Can I see the reverse of the Landwehr cockade

Charles,
There are a few addition dart colors (Faden - literally "threads") out there that you did not mention. First, the Baden colors, red/yellow appear on certain types of straps. The ones that I have seen were non-official officer's types. The two examples I can remember were a medical doctor's boards and the commander's board of the J?ger Rgt.Nr.3 (Ralf von Rango). I think this was a personal choice, especially in the case of von Rango, who was leading a mixed regiment of Prussians, Bavarians and Badeners.
Another type is the blue darts of the Beamten. All Beamten, regardless of their home state, had the blue darts. They are often mistaken for Bavarian darts. It's the state Wappen that is the identifying mark on a Beamten board.
The addition of the white darts to those that had previously only had one color (blue/white, black/white, etc.) came with M15 Feldachselst?cke. States with more than one color already remained the same (red/black - W?rttemberg, red/yellow/blue - Mecklenburg).
Cockades changed over time, depending on the period. What time frame are you interested in?
Chip
Chip,
I'm interested in the officer cockades from periods 1910-1915 and 1915-1918. (Actually, the war period) I have a 22nd Dragoon 1Lt tunic that has Prussian "faden". I think I saw a post J?ger Rgt.Nr.3 strap, single I think, on an old thread here. Interesting but hard to make out the colors in the post. I really don't understand why Hesse would have distinctive faden and Baden would not.
I also don't understand how one tells 1910 boards from the earlier period boards. My understanding is that older straps are larger.
Thanks Chip for your help on this topic.

My Michael the Brave 1916 1st Class.
Notice the issue number 17 on the reverse.
This is a rare class of the order.

To make it even more educational can we post the cockade color configurations along with the flecking?

Can someone post a chart of the flecking used by the various States in Germany?
I know the Prussian, Bavarian, Saxon, Wurttemburg, Hessian, Mecklenburg, had special flecking but are there others? Most principalities wore Prussian flecked boards didn't they?
If I missed a thread discussing this and showing examples please let me know.

Hmm , the belt looks very similar to a Swedish Officer belt from 1939, I have to take pics of mine and
compare them. I?ll be back or maybe someone knows direct?
Christer
I'll have to do some checking but I think its French or British.

What's the ribbon combo? I see EKII but the order doesn't match anything on his bar does it?
Oh, I was just looking at the name strip. What is this rank? I guess he may have been a navy man... I know nothing about Austrian Navy or marine(if any) history.

And now the really interresting pictures: sewn ribbons from his tunic, badges from his visor(?) and a nice little piece of sheet... with his name and rank on it!
Schiffsleutnant Karl Topil. Could someone verify him? Would be very nice, thanks.

HELLO!!!!!
Surely someone has a photo...
Here's my Landwehr Cavalry tunic. The straps actually appear to have once had numbers and pips. Can anyone help me acquire the correct numeral devices for this style tunic? I'm also seraching for an appropreate visor cap.

Here's my Finnish Captains Winter war pattern tunic and cap with a nice overcoat that I don't remember the date. Luckily, I have several Winter War dated tunics, mostly enlisted men. I am greatly fond of the Finnish Army and collected a large amount before the prices started rising too high.
The Finnish Army is very impressive.

Pinned through material. The holes line up perfectly with this badge and there's discoloration from a badge being there. It's a little off center but looks right when on a mannequin.
Thanks for your kind words. It took me a long time to find.

Okay, so I can at least be sure it's the same I thought it was. It might take some time but I can promise you you'll get the name it came with. No 100% guarantee it is the correct name, but it seemed to be...
In the meantime, I can add my one and only Austrian bar. I bought it as it has a German ribbon on it: a nice Bavarian pre-war MVO 4th class!
NICE!

Very nice ones, though not any ribbon bar collector likes those Austrian monsters - but don't worry, I do and am still looking for one that has a Baden decoration on it...
Pity that great bar from #4 has been seperated from it's brother, from the other stuff it came with on eBay - and from the name. You don't have any of this, do you? I don't have it handy but in some days, weeks or months I hope I can add the name - if you want me to do.
I tried to get both I couldn't as they ended at the same time and someone sniped me at the last moment. I got the one I was concentrating on. If there were other items I missed it. I'd love to have a name to go with the bar. Its a lovely bar with only slight wear and damage.

I only have one of the 20mm half size reductions. I've also got a 15mm "German size" that I do not believe post-dates 1938-- they were experimenting with sizes that weere better for wear than the full 40mm widths, which had to overlap as you've shown above.
Never seen ANY Austro-Hungarian/Austrian 1st Republic regulations concerning ribbon bar sizes.
I actually like the smaller bars more. I think they are made from covering a small piece of Sheetmetal.

Wonderful uniform! Looks like all buttons are present too! Are there two grommets or thread loops for the MilMerit 4th class? Or is it pinned through the pocket material?
