    1.

The Prussian and Reichs civil service directories from 1918 are spectacular. Finding anybody from a combination of awards without clues from the award Rolls is a matter of pure chance--thousands of pages to go through-- but it is at least now POSSIBLE to see what tens of thousands of "invisible" dR and dL officers got during the war-- from their Day Job listings.

Paul is tirelessly amassing wartime Court and State Handbooks for another CD of never-seen-before awards groups references.

Could it belong to Lt d R Stubgen?

    2. I just couldn't get this one out of my head.... Now, mind you I'm not convinced at all that the ribbon bar is legit. Too messy, too convenient that the threads are black so they will not glow.... Just too much garbage in the marketplace these days for me to be comfortable with this bar...

Having said all that........... I present to you from deep within my archives....

      A photo I call...

      "The Naughty Bavarian"

      Enjoy!

      Super protrait

    3. OK,

here is the front row mounted on a "Ball bar" with the ball bar for row 2 above it to show what they are like

Super looking. I like what you are doing.

Chris, I am on a continuous search for those bars with the bars for single medals. I collect WW1 and colonial medals and have several French uniforms. If you now of a source for period bars please let me know.

    4. Soooo, how's the L?beck work going?

Here's an odd one that just  came in:

      1) Ernestine... some class in silver (Medal? Merit Cross? Knight 2nd?)

      2) Austro-Hungarian (no device... Bravery Medal? or just... no device? Or FJO on war ribbon, or ?...)

      3) Bulgarian generic Bravery ribbon (again no device, so nooooo clue)

      4) :Cat-Scratch: L?beck Hanseatic Cross AFTER two FOREIGN awards !!! :speechless1:

I know it's not an Imtiaz because the mothies have munched through the back and it is WHITE/RED not faded out GREEN/RED.

Assuming there was an Iron Cross ribbon worn in the buttonhole... VERY odd to have this sort of rbbon bar with awards split that way. 4 different states' awards on a bar to a presumed Prussian (who just wore his EK2 ribbon alone, most of the time?) is a LOT for an enlisted man...

but cannot tell from this combination if he was an officer, NCO, or private. Some things are just not possible from ribbons alone.

      ...

without comparing the Ernestine and L?beck Hanseatic rolls, of course. :catjava:

Wow, that's very unusual and interesting. I've seen one in the past with a Ernestine and a St Henry medal I think and one other but no EKII. I passed because I was unsure. Yours looks well used and worth having.

    5. Ahhhhhhhh. :love::love::love:

Paul: we NEVER discuss award numbers on the higher classes of things like the Crosses of Liberty... why give information to lazy dealers that lets them raise their prices on us?

      My prize:

And I haven't seen another 1918 OCL 2nd Military in 18 years. :ninja:

Say hi to Jani for me!

Rick, ain't my name on that bar for the day you, you know, pass on.... Can't take it with you and let's face it, you are getting old.

    6. Hi,

      new forum for me...

Would like to get into contact with people who are - as I am - fond of collecting Finnish items.

I have collected so far a big treasure.

I am mostly interested in RUK badges and VR (liberty crosses, class 1 and 2). Also orders of lion with swords or medals bars (with documents) make me HORNY :)

In the next days, weeks... I will show you some - in my opinion - great items.

Hope to see you at the end of March in Stuttgart, good old Germany at Jani's auction...

And hope to get in touch with you...

      Regards,

      Mikko

I'm quite fond of Finnish militaria...

    7. The home of the other family besides the Hohenzollerns with a strong connection to Britain: Veste Coburg above the city of Coburg. The orders belonged to Ernst I, Ernst II and Alfred, Dukes of Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha.

As I mentioned, they were there along with a few others. Here are some of Duke Alfred's, including his baton as an Admiral of the Fleet of the Royal Navy.

Super display. I do like the pyramid...

    8. WHY would anyone make a medal with a woman screaming to get a duck out of her hair? :speechless1::speechless:

Chris that dirty dull one makes her look like she's got a horned Viking helmet... with a duck on it. YUCK !!! :catjava:

It is an odd looking medal... Almost as bad as many of the US medals or African medals...

    9. Cockade looks Bavarian to me-- but the clincher is the way he is wearing his ribbons.

Despite his tunic buttons, he is wearing the Bavarian MMC ribbon in pride of place....

      He's a Bavarian.

Why the Prussian buttons? I just don't understand. The 1916 Bavarian tunic was to use the Prussian style button as on the 1915 tunic but I've never seen a 07/10 tunic for a Bavarian using Prussian buttons.

I agree, Bavarian ribbon over the Prussian plus the Bavarian Pilots Badge makes one conclude he was a Bavarian.

    10. Arrrrrrggghhh!!!

Just after having found my dream DN... I find a better one....

      A matt Bronze color....

I'm lookinf forward to seeing how this turns out. My medals are scattered about as I received a few after my service. Oddly, I don't feel too much love for my medals like I do the ones I collect.
