    1. STECKKREUZ

I have a photo and a bit of history around A Landsturm or Landwher NCO who won the Schaumburg-Lippe Kruez STECKKREUZ. This is odd as I had forgotten the name of the award and how rare they were. I man I befriended in Germany some years ago had many photos and a bio on this NCO from interviews with his relatives. I can't remember the man's name, the NCO's name, or the e-mail address. I start searching for it this week.

    2. I just read a interesting article.(at least to me)From what I read he got the BMVK 3 class with swords on may 9,1918.My question is;he also got the medal of miltary services 3 class

on 25.8.1918.,.Was there a reason he did not have a ribbon bar.He wore his 1st class with pride.

AH probably only wore his EK1 and WB because they showed his combat bravery. He didn't seem to be really into medals for himself or he could have worn ribbons from Italy, German Reich and Party awards, WWI awards, and probably ribbons from many other country's that honored him with orders.

I guess nobody really would know.

    3. Notice that he is wearing his Z?hringen BACKWARDS?

Major in the Kriegsministerium or General Staff. Maybe from this combination in the Wumba or something like that?

Combat awards from Prussia and Brunswick (spectrum shift on the colors, I think-- remmeber dark blue and yellow reverse darkness in these old photos); weird Saxon and W?rttemberg war effort awards...

maybe Daniel can ID him from the WilhelmskreuzX and the pre-war BZ3bE.

In B&W photos can't tell Kriegsministerium from General Staff? I think the only difference is farben color. Am I correct or way off? I'd like to own a photo like the one is this thread. I have tow Staff major's tunics and am always looking for photos to look at uniform detail.

    4. gentlemen, today I have a very interesting but confusing medal bar for you - unfortunately not on my desk, only the photo of the wearer.....

look at this mounting precedence with only 2 prussian awards first (EK2 and Centenarmedal), then a saxon war aid cross followed by a Baden Z?hringer Lion with oakleaves but WITHOUT swords!!! After that a W?rtemberger, a Braunschweiger, Hamburg and Austria...last but not least a turkish Liakat that is added to the bar!!!

So, in service 1897 but no long service yet...... a confusing mix of peacetime awards, non-combattant awards and combattant awards....

Please give me your comments on the bar, on the mounting of the awards and maybe you have a name for me...?!

Interesting to finally see a Staff Officer wearng the Saxon War Effort. This reminds me of my Bar that I think to be a Staff Officer's ribbon bar for a Major.

    5. But it's NOT an Austrian's bar -----> PRUSSIAN/REICHS XV Years Service Cross!

That is also the GERMAN China Medal. While some Germans received the Austro-Hungarian "generic" 1873 War Medal for China (last OFFICIALLY granted for there, though Robert has shown us a photo of an Austrian with one who held the German Southwest Africa Medal 1904/06--must have been a unique "final" one!! :speechless1: ), I have never seen an Austrian with the German medal for China...

and an Austrian in China would have had said 1873 War Medal but NEVER a Prussian long service award.

Ergo, a German's second row. :catjava:

Rick, your a darn good medal bar detective. ;)

    6. I have TWO of the Baron's ribbon bars.

      Two is one too many!

I'd say yours WILL BE identifiable, without question. Daniel has been slaving on the HOH3X lists, Seeheld has been doing Mecklenburg-Schwerin's (that is what is 2nd, an "MK2"-- and this officer would absolutely have had the pinback "MK1"). 4th is (booooo hissssssssss) the Strelitz Cross for Distinction in War (don't even ask. :speechless::banger: ) and last is Bremen.

That excites me. :jumping: I wish like heck I had the research materials you fellows have.

    7. So, which two of the three are on my bar? Surely this bar can be ID'd. It's a bit unique with the combo

1---- Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class

      ----- Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross

----- Mecklenburg-Strelitz Cross for Distinction in War

----- Mecklenburg House Order of the Wend Crown

3---- Prussian Hohenzollern House Order 3rd Class with Swords

      5----- Bremen Hanseatic Cross

    8. I understand the precedence here.. it appears that the Merit cross took precedence over orders as the EK2 took precedence over orders.

So, why is this ribbon bar assembled in this order?

      Mecklenburg-Schwerin?s regulations per 27 April 1905 were:

1---- Prussian Iron Cross 2nd Class

      2---- Mecklenburg-Schwerin Military Merit Cross

3---- Mecklenburg-Strelitz Cross for Distinction in War

4---- Mecklenburg House Order of the Wend Crown

5---- Mecklenburg Order of the Griffin

      6---- Mecklenburg Lifesaving Medal

7---- Mecklenburg Military Service Cross for Officers (defunct)

8---- Mecklenburg-Strelitz Military Service Cross for Officers (defunct)

9---- Prussian Hohenzollern House Order 3rd Class with Swords

10-- Prussian Red Eagle Order 3rd and 4th Classes with Swords

11-- Prussian Crown Order 3rd and 4th Classes with Swords

12-- Prussian Gold Military Merit Cross

13-- Prussian/Reichs Military Decoration 1st Class (silver cross)

14-- Prussian/Reichs Military Decoration 2nd Class (silver medal)

      15-- Prussian Lifesaving Medal

16-- Prussian Hohenzollern House Order 3rd Class on statute ribbon

17-- Prussian Red Eagle Order 3rd and 4th Classes on statute ribbon
