    1. Hello,

@ Ricky: i have checked => i am missing a part of the B-entry's + that is a part i can't give info on. Must check again, etc ....

@ Landsknechte: very nice ribbon bar, however indeed i think impossible to ID as to thin and a L?H is also not exactly a unique award.

      Cordial greetings,

Can someone tell me (off line) approximate values of the Hanseatic awards? In all my years collecting I've never purchased any of the three because they were common and inexpensive. Its time to correct that.

    2. He thought so. Remember-- Mecklenburg had its own rules (see "Mecklenburg Rules" in the Ribbon bar Article over on the other side of this website)--

      <a href="http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?autocom=galler...=si&img=850" target="_blank">http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?autocom=galler...=si&img=850</a>

      German wartime awards

German peacetime awards (he has arranged them by highest class and biggest "country" down)

      Long Service

      Foreign.

I forgot I had TWO identified "One Name" Mecklenburg groups. :speechless::catjava:

Both are SWEEEEET Is that a White Falcon at the end or a foreign award?

    3. I can't really tell from the picture, but it seems like it would be largely irrelevant in this case. To have two 1914 EK-type ribbons on a bar, both with gold crown and swords - what else could they be but one of each?

Well, if you want to use logic then...

I haven't learned the difference between a KOXmK, a RAOXmK, and a HHOX... I'm way behind you guys when it comes to ribbons and abreviations.

Speaking of being behind, what does :catjava: mean? I'm stupid!!! :banger:

    4. Yes. Thanks to the work on W?rttemberg awards Daniel Krause is doing-- and the VERY odd name of your man--

Eugen FUOSS received the "WF3bX" gazetted in the W?rttemberg Personal-Nachrichten on 22.8.16 as Lt dR in KW Landwehr Inf Rgt 120. His actual award date would have been earlier than that since there was normally a delay of several weeks in publishing.

But a pre-war career NCO's W?rttemberg IX Years Service medal to a 1918 Lt dR seems very odd indeed. You should be able to get his Auszug aus der Kriegsrangliste from the Wtbg military archives which would confirm all his awards and provide actual bestowal dates.

Rick, is there a chance he was a carrer NCO and then commisioned a LT dR in the Landwehr during WW1? I'm often amazed by the way promotions were distributed. Offizierstellvertreter, Feldwebel-Lt, Lt dR...

Dete, does everything on the shelf belong to Lt Fuoss?

    5. An officer, but from which regiment? The unusual thing seems to be the button on the Krage, could it mean they are from a Sachsen regiment? Also the uniform combination is unusual, a white Waffenrock and black trousers? They are horse riding trousers clearly, but part of the uniform or just for training?

Maybe its a prewar Litewka with the black/blue trousers. Maybe those who are far better with photo analysis can help you but I can't determine they are cavalry myself. Infantry and artillery officers also rode horses.

    6. Charles,

Normally, they would change their boards, as this would be the only unit insignia that they would have worn. If an officer was transferred to another branch, especially during the war, he most likely would have continued to serve in the uniform of his previous unit. I know of one order which authorized officer's who were transferred out of cyphered grenadier regiments to continue to wear the cypher on the shoulder board with the new unit number superimposed. It made for a odd looking insignia, but it was done and I have an example in my collection. Regarding the state colored darts (Faden), I would think that would be a personal choice, influenced to a great degree by opportunity to get replacement articles.

      Chip

      Well,

The boards are Prussian and the 111 seems to be original. Maybe he was the first commander and maybe he was Prussian. I don't know for sure if the unit was made up of Hessen men or available units from other areas.

    7. I never really thought about this before but when officer's were send to other units to command or fill positions did they change their boards, keep their original unit boards, or was it a matter of choice?

If a Prussian went to a Hessen or Mecklinburg unit did he change boards to reflect the states colors? Did a Hessen going to a Prussian unit wear Prussian or Hessen boards? :speechless1:

      What about generals?
