    1. The rank crown is the pre circa 1952 King's Crown, the "R" beneath the insignia, I thought that this was a relatively new practise, indicating that the solder concerned is "Retired"
    2. Looks like one of the regular battalions from the shoulder title?
    3. Good, check out this thread on The R Warwicks: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=37418&st=0&p=348337&fromsearch=1&#entry348337 They formed the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers in 1968, so the threads on RRF are relevant too, the R Warwicks social club is probably under the umbrella of the RRF nowadays?
    4. You mention "the army school near Chepstow - I had considered The Army Apprentice School as the collar badge worn by the soldier in post no. 18, but thought RAOC was a closer match - however The Army Apprentice School, formed 1947, was at Chepstow, so depending on that collar badge we could be looking at either of your grandfather's two sons, Charles or George? Of course, he may be neither.......
    5. George Gerald Rush you refer to? Name: G. G. B. Rush Rank: Sapper Army Number: 1868924 Regiment: Royal Engineers POW Number: 12037 Camp Type: Stalag Camp Number: 344 Camp Location: Lambinowice, Poland Record Office: Royal Engineers Record Office, Ditchling Road, Brighton, Sussex Record Office Number: 9
    6. Wondered, mainly because of the brand new looking tartan patch.....I'm not sure if I have any photos of Scottish Horse wearing the slouch hat, I know I have a few of them n Balmorals just prior to WWI, I'll have a look.
    7. There's more in the way of photos, I will email you. Any resemblance to your photo aged 70? Was there another Charles Rush, possibly a son or nephew of your grandfather, who was a Staff Sergeant Artificer in The Royal Army Ordnance Corps?
    8. 14th Hussars amalgamated to form 14th/20th Hussars on 1/10/1920 by the way, perhaps this is causing confusion re. the 14th Hussars / 20th Hussars issue?
    9. Hopefully this gentleman in the photo of 14th Hussars, Bangalore, India, 1912? Just the one medal ribbon worn, I think, & I think it's the QSA.
    10. 1891 England Census shows: Name: Charles Rush Age: 15 Estimated birth year: abt 1876 Relation: Servant Gender: Male Where born: Howden, Yorkshire, England Address; Prickett Hill Civil parish: Wressell Ecclesiastical parish: Wressell Town: Newsholme County/Island: Yorkshire Registration district: Howden Sub-registration district: Howden Household Members: Name Age Thomas Hatfield 34 Ellen Hatfield 30 Albert Harrison 19 (servant) Charles Rush 15 (servant) Son of Edward Rush & Mary McGinn, husband of Cecilia Alice Hills? Died in 1955? Possible his Grandfather was Charles Rush of Howden died 1872? Could be........ Photo of Charles Rush with wife Cecilia:
    11. Looks like his medals will be Queen's South Africa Medal(?), 1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Army Long Service & Good Conduct (it's all one medal). (The Medal Index Card refers to his entitlement to the three WWI medals). Medal Rolls for his regiment will show which Boer War medals he was entitled to, The regimental museum may have records, if only regimental journals, which refer to his shooting prizes. His service papers may survive, I have'nt found service or penson papers re. WWI service.
    12. A possibilty, 14th Hussars & Corps of Hussars........ 14th Hussars were India, Mesopotamia 14/11/1915. His medals should have 14th Hussars as the unit on them.
    13. He's wearing the ASC cap badge, & 1908 Pattern webbing which has'nt undergone the wartime modificaton to the fastenings of the left side pouches. According to the book, the lozenge died out during WWI & was'nt revived after the war, although it was used circa 1948 - 77 by ACF, JTC / CCF. The crossed rifles will have a crown above, it looks like there's something there in the photo, I do'nt know exactly what this would mean in a Volunteer or TF ASC unit. If he's not got the entry for the 1914 / 1914 - 15 Star on his MIC then he did'nt go overseas until after 1915. Name: Victor Mark White Birth Place: Shute, Axminster Residence: Shute Death Date: 25 Sep 1917 Death Location: France & Flanders Enlistment Location: Exeter, Devon Rank: Private Regiment: King's (Liverpool Regiment) Battalion: 5th Battalion Number: 51228 Type of Casualty: Died of wounds Theatre of War: Western European Theatre Comments: Formerly T/2.S.R/03154, Royal Army Service Corps.
    14. Born in Hilton,Darby, joined up at Sutton Coldfield on 23/9/1914 aged 24 years five months, had already served (time expired) in a RAMC Volunteer Feld Ambulance unit, possibly 1st North Mids Field Ambulance. Father was Thomas Boynton Civilian profession "manager". 5' 8" tall, 157 3/4 lbs, fresh complexion, blue eyes, light hair. Chest 35", 40" fully ezpanded, good physical development & pulse rate. On 1/11/1915 transferred as a sergeant to 17th (Local Reserve) Bn R Warwicks, 25/2/1916 medical board at Chiseldon reccommended for disharge due to internal derangement of knee cap (not result of military service), discharged 14/3/1916 as "no longer physically fit for war service". Discharged to an address in Handsworth, Birmingham.
    15. Is that for post 127, the recruiting poster / calender? Ta - "Jesus" Laud / Lord on the right.
    16. A regiment for Joseph would hopefully find at least a Medal Index Card......
    17. "People" say this is genuine, but I'm a little suspicious, no real reason:
    18. The family in 1901 George, the head of the household is a clogger, the family address is 14, Leckell’s (?) Lane, Wigton Name Age George Prescott 29 Ellen Prescott 28 Wm Dixon Prescott 7 Thomas Prescott 6 Mary E Prescott 4 Joseph Prescott 2 Alice Prescott 2 Months 14, Leckell’s Lane, Wigton George Prescott Age: 29 Estimated birth year: abt 1872 Relation: Head Spouse's name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Carlisle, Cumberland, England Civil parish: Wigton Ecclesiastical parish: Wigton St Mary Town: Wigton County/Island: Cumberland Country: England Ellen Prescott Age: 28 Estimated birth year: abt 1873 Relation: Wife Spouse's name: George Gender: Female Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England Wm Dixon Prescott Age: 7 Estimated birth year: abt 1894 Relation: Son Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England Thomas Prescott Age: 6 Estimated birth year: abt 1895 Relation: Son Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England Mary E Prescott Age: 4 Estimated birth year: abt 1897 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Female Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England Joseph Prescott Age: 2 Estimated birth year: abt 1899 Relation: Son Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Male Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England Alice Prescott Age: 2 Mo Estimated birth year: abt 1901 Relation: Daughter Father's Name: George Mother's Name: Ellen Gender: Female Where born: Wigton, Cumberland, England
    19. Older than they look apparently - 18 years old Brtish army soldiers at Etaples, France, Spring 1918 - an Imperial War Museum photo:
    20. 14th, 15th, 16th (Service)Bns The Royal Warwckshire Regiment (1st, 2nd & 3rd Birmingham) - The Birmingham Pals, raised September 1914 by the Lord Mayor & The City of Birmingham. I think that this is a lapel badge worn by personnel of the three battalions in their civilian clothes, converted to a locket. A quick look around does'nt come up with a William Boynton of The Brmingham Pals Merv, tho' there's a Sgt Herbert Boynton of the 15th Bn, joined up on 16/9/1914, discharged sick on 14/3/1916. Found a William Boynton, born about 1894, joined the army in 1917, resident at 116 Guildford St, Aston, Birmngham - was'nt in the army in 1914 & was Army Service Corps, not Birmingham Pals - any chance this could be your William Boynton?
    21. ""A" Comy London Scottish Resting in Mons before there departure for Germany 1919"
    22. Need to go firm on the number please, otherwise too many variables, some way out when you search......
    23. Some helmets with pugarees, some without - post no. 165 ( also 163) seems to be the best in terms of the pugaree variation as per Stuart's helmet? The photo I have is 10" x !2" & mounted on thck card with the inked title "Charge by the Royal Naval Division: Dardanelles".
