Hi, I would like to show you my latest documented group, consisting of a Medal for bravery, order of the red star, orders book, listing both decorations, award card and two citations for both awards. The translation isn't finished yet, so I would like to ask someone who reads russian, for a brief translation of the citations, I would like to know why this man got these awards.

OK, how about this, the first two medals "Franja" and "Pavla" were awarded in 1978 on the same day and on the same ceremony. The third "Pohorje" was awarded in 1985 (7 years later) on an entierly different ceremony and is somewhat different in design (with completly different ribbon) and has no grades. So are you still claiming that the three medals belong to the same series? If you are, then we just dissagree.

Mistakes like this, happened quite frequently with this order. As a result it is possible to find many different variations. The third class (with silver star) should have a golden partisan and golden rays, but silver star. The second class (with silver rays) should have a gold star and everything else in silver. The first class (with golden star) should have a gold star and golden rays but a silver partisan. In reality it isn't always like this. Almost all of the order of merit to people in my collection don't correspond to above described. My 2. class has silver star and golden partisan and rays (but is in 2.class box and numbered II), my two third classes have golden stars (and are in 3. class boxes and numbered III on the reverse), only my first class corresponds to the above described correctly. However I think that the back side COUNTED, so the example, that was posted here on the forum was most probably awarded as a 2. class. So in short, it's a real mess with these orders, but the back side counts for the grade of the order.

Yes I know this medal. But that one is slightly different in design because it was not made by the same manufacturer. Also, it doesn't have two grades, for personell and wounded, like the Franja and Pavla medals. So we can't say they are from the same series of medals. But it was awarded for the same reason, to commemorate a hospital, so you are right on this part. And it is super rare, never saw one for sale myself eather. The medalions on Franja and Pavla medals are 30 mm wide and the ribbon is 24 mm wide and 14 mm high.

I was refering to the medals of the same desing like these two in this post. There may be others comemmorative medals that are different in design and not awarded in two ore more designs seperately to personell and wounded.

No problem. I'm glad that I can help. Actualy there are a few slovenian catalogs or handbooks for these awards but they are in slovenian language so I guess they will not be of much help to foreign collectors.

These two medals are actualy ww2 commemorative medals that were isued for 35 aniversary of the hospital Franja and hospital Pavla. Both hospitals were introduced in 1943. They are not official yugoslav awards, but commemorative Slovenian awards. Hospital Franja medal : 110 golden medals issued on the red ribbon for hospital personel and 500 golden medals awarded with yellow ribbon with red stripes to wounded that were treated there. There were also 1200 bronze medals that have been for sale on the aniversary commemoration. hospital Pavla medal: 100 golden medals, issued on red ribbon for hospital personel and 500 golden medals with red ribbon with black stripes to wounded partisans that were treated there. There were also 600 bronze medals that were for sale at the aniversary commemoration. So yours are for the wounded partisans that were treated in those hospitals during ww2. There are no other commemorative medals for partisan hospitals as far as I'm aware.

Yes! But first I wanted to ask about originality and about the serial number. Howewer I think there may be a chance that this one was never awarded as it's in almost mint condition. Look at the screwplate, it's like new. Something, I would not expect from a 1943 award.

Hi guys, I just got in these two nice early pieces, they are numbered 113 489 and 152 557, the research has already been ordered but as it takes so long for research to get done, I would like to ask here what is your best guess, when and where were they awarded. Does anyone have a similar numbered researched red star in his collection? Thanks for help. Mark

This one's very interesting. Never saw an unnumbered order for bravery before and I collect these for about 7 years and I have at least 10 pieces of all types in my collection. Do you perhaps know if it was issued or is it some kind of an unfinished leftover?

I have a question, the signature near the stamp in the order book in the first post of this thread is the same as in my two order books for medal for bravery. Why it this so?
