    1. Not having a working scanner would be the issue! A camera used by all and sundry would be another! And finally no I have not previously needed a blacklight, collecting metal civil and political badges and tinnies I have not needed one I guess I may need to remedy that, but we shall see. No idea where to get one in the UK. The pics I posted of the bar were sent to me when I enquired about it being for sale. Regards Matt Gibbs
    2. OK I have tried 7 times now. Rick if you PM me your email I will send you the pic I have, my software obviously can't make it pitifully small enough without it looking blurred or silly. I can manage one of the back. Regards Matt Gibbs
    3. Ok I have tried this image. Question, with these political awards are they ever seen in the wrong order or is this not possible, I ask because of the story behind it, thats all. Ok whats the file max size, cos I have tried a detailed pic and it keeps telling me it is too big Matt
    4. Ok, founts of knowlege, been asked to post this for opinions. Regards Matt Gibbs
    5. How about even the fact the owner could have been a spanish volunteer or of foreign descent from way back..? Nationalist pride etc. Just plain wrong order works as well of course In many ways it seems that the regulations were so confusing at different times! Regards Matt Gibbs
    6. Stogieman; Do you mean the one with the three gulls, the C classification badge? Or the glider pilots badge, very rare! I thought from the pics the glider pilots badge was not an embroidered one? If I am on the wrong track just say. I did wonder if the C badge was a wreath of leaves around it, or just an embroidered circle. If its the wreath one then I understand your reasons, but the "normal" version is quite common is it not? interestingly in the first pic the guy above who you can hardly see appears wo be wearing a metal award version of the C type, it that the NSFK Glider bagde..??? If so that must be quite a rare pic of the award in wear. Regards Matt Gibbs
    7. Absolute pleasure Stogieman, and Warlord! It is likely that a trained official like him would think in March 1945 the end was obvious to all and he decided he was not going to lose his life after being right through the war! Whatever happened in those last days I wonder if the official records on his file would make interesting reading, for whomever has the group this is for sure. Not sure who owns it now of course! If you go HERE http://www.specialcamp11.fsnet.co.uk/Gener...Feuchtinger.htm There is plenty of his biographical data, promotions and details of his career. Also a list of his awards, I assume this comes from the official POW data and so is assumed correct, why would British Officials add or subtract from his statement about such unimportant things at that time? Additional awards to the list already: Ritterkreuz 6.8.44 [possibly for Caen?] Generalmajor 21st Panzer Div. DKiS 15.7.43 Oberst and Kdr Art.Br.West 931 No mention of the Olympic medal but possibly they did not consider it a mil.award? Have a look to see the other details. Good luck with more research
    8. GENERAL Edgar FEUCHTINGER..? Not by the end of the war he wasn't In fact he was busted DOWN to KANONIER ! 5th january 1945. ARRESTED, imprisoned in Torgau Military Fortress, to await COURT MARTIAL regarding his absence [without leave?] from Divisional HQ of 21st Panzer Divison on the night of the D Day Landings. Sentenced to DEATH and reduced in rank to Kanonier. [Private in Artillery] However.....! 2nd March 1945 [Germany in trouble!] PARDONED and TRANSFERRED to 20th Panzer Grenadier Division as a Kanonier. He disobeyed orders and fled to Celle and was later captured by the allies 29/5/45 If you want more info and you have not got it just shout Regards Matt Gibbs
    9. Quite nice and interesting pics. It is likely he was an early member, but not early enough to qualify for the Golden Party badge, OR not continuous membership. He may well have been a young leader in the HJ and thus recieved the Golden HJ badge for this service. It was not restricted just to HJ youngsters, don't forget up until the declaration of war he could still have been involved in the HJ as a leader. The whole set up of his badges is very nice. As a glider pilot with those Fallschirm. is it likely that they are comrades in some way as of course they were not "just" paras but were also glider borne units as well! I like those small ribbon bars for civil/party as well as military awards. Best wishes Matt Gibbs
    10. Hello there [again]. Much useful information. I was wondering if the S&L catalogue had been reproduced as I can see it is a useful tool for checking the quality of the ribbon emblems and what was proper. My mind is being filled with precedences and facts but is there a reference site for this? I feel that the answer may be no as precedence varied from States and also in the Reich eras but I wanted to check. If not I feel sure that there must be a thread here that someone has written on this, [possibly while breathing in the clear New England air?] so can someone point to it. I took the plunge and ordered my first few bars from the sales section - I think I may be hopelessly caught up in the headlights or something..? I can't resist looking at the site for more info, even when I am supposed to be working or other suff Regards Matt Gibbs
    11. To add to the Herr Gentlemans service [from the site from whence I came] the info states 346 Inf.Div service for him from 16.10.44 to 1.2.45. At this time the unit was in Belgium and the Netherlands. He was with Inf Div "Hamburg from 4.3.45 until some time in April. He is also linked as Kdr 618 replacement Inf Div in May 1945, which Div. was destroyed in the Ruhr pocket. Also from 1.5.44 to 5.6.44 he was in Hirschberg on Divisional Commanders Course 11 - just in case the photo owner [whom I assume posted the pic] is interested in his bio details. Regards Matt Gibbs
    12. Yes indeed, knowlege and more knowlege! I shall have to try looking for as many original bars as possible. Regards Matt Gibbs
    13. A Gent can only recieve the awards his superiors are prepared to complete the paperwork and official forms for. Perhaps his superiors were substandard administrators Excellent photo either way Matt Gibbs
    14. I have been reading a lot of threads about this subject because I am interested in getting into this area, but I am a little bit afraid now because of all the seemingly dodgy ones. And I thought the political badges fakes were scary I think I shall need to be a lot more wary! especially as I would particularly like to collect civilian awards on bars! Anyhow I will have to get a good book methinks, anyone any recommendations? As mentioned above, how do you chaps define a long bar, based on all the sites I have looked on at for sale bars there are so many 4 and 5 and hardly anything above that so is 8 plus considered to be long..?? Many thanks for any help! Best wishes Matt Gibbs
    15. Hello Rick! Am I to assume now that you're not going to "finger" your evil comrade with a name so I can put a fix on him? I agree with your statement about the Ehrenzeichen fur Volkspflege, now I know what you are meaning. I think my confusion comes from the way in which you talk about these. You spoke of Commanders grade and perhaps to me that means something different, because I refer to them as 1st class, 2nd class, 3rd class etc etc. I was refering to the 3rd Class wheras you undoubtedly mean the special or first class neck order with the oakleaves I assume? My reference work on these is in German and so I have to translate it to english also! Fun eh? Anyway, many thanks for your hints and information! I am very pleased to learn all I can about ribbon bars. I know what you mean when you said to lots of people they are overlooked. I have been doing that but now I have seen the threads on here and I am getting more interested. I think I need to do much reading though. I have not seen many dealers in the UK that seems to have many bars for sale, but perhaps some one on here can PM me with the details of some friendly knowlegable dealers and not someone who just wants to blind me in their headlights Kind regards and Matt Gibbs
    16. Heiko; I assume you have a short list of names from the rolls of medals for the 1899-1900 clasp? If so is it possible to check the medal records for those men to see who also won the EK and then maybe reduce your list some more? It is a great shame there is no names on the later 3rd reich red cross medals. Kind regards and best wishes Matt Gibbs
    17. Hello ribboners; I am trying to expand my collecting interests to stave off some of the winter blues/seasonal adjustment disorder and I am looking at aquiring some ribbon bars. Independant of the ones above I have a question. With relation to the above facts there is mention about the commanders grade of the social welfare decoration. Is the ribbon emblem the same for all the grades of this? I appreciate that I do not fully understand the context of the one above yet in relation to the other awards in that bar, but the lowest class of the neck version was not as "exclusive" as the others by any means, rarer than the medal of course, but even people like nursing "Schwester's" could recieve this award so it was not a high commanders award specifically. Is it rare on a ribbon bar. One reason I am interested in collecting in this area is that I am mainly interested in political and civil awards and this may be a way for me to ease into the military side! Next thing I know it will be full size but that is not my intention!! Ok we all know about the road being paved with good intentions. BUT that aside I am looking for a start to my collection in this sphere, where you guys all seem to have a lot of fun. I am sure I shall be educated here! Any particular recommendations of good dealers of these? I'm interested in mixes of imp. and 3rd reich not just wartime. TTFN Matt Gibbs
    18. Given that the numbers awarded are so small, and the orders chancellry might have taken projections of this into account when placing orders with firms isn't it quite unlikely that there would have been 10's of firms producing these awards.? Just making a point, I don't wish to start an argument but there doesn't seem to be all that many makers of this, I know we don't know HOW many. Anyone researching in this area made a stab at looking at makers and die characteristics to get an idea of how many makers? ttfn MG
    19. I appreciate that it is possible but if I was lucky enough to have had a grouping to a Gauleiter I doubt, since there was only 40 odd of them, that I would ever forget it! Never mind forget the name. The nearest I have ever had is an item to a deputy gauleiter and I shall never forget that. In fact, even though I don't have it now I am still researching the guy! LOL Regards Matt Gibbs
    20. What was the outcome on this..? I like to see SS ribbon bars, but don't see many full sized. thanks MG
    21. I too was wondering if perhaps this was the Gloy being referred to. He was an early member of the NSDAP so for sure would have qualified for these awards. He was one of the members of the Reichstag for Hamburg representing the NSDAP. He was elected and served in 1931, 32 and 33, which was of course the time of the great fire. He was born in Hamburg on 9. 2. 1886 in Hamburg, 1933-1937 Kreisleiter der NSDAP Rotherbaum Harvesthode. Would be nice if it was him, shame you have no more details Dan, but this guy was definately a Hamburger! regards Matt Gibbs
    22. Very nice to look at guys. All I need to do now is actually work out what they all are. Good job my interest is in other things else I could probably locate a few of these through my german work colleague. Mind you I have enough to spend my money on! Kind regards Matt Gibbs
    23. Dan, I think me and you are going to have to get together with my new digital camera sometime mate, then I can give you a cd with pics of all your gems on, then you can post pics! Regards and best wishes, Matt PS I got that grouping I told you about the other day.
    24. Hi folks, a "tinnie" for the Deputy Gauleiter of Wurttemberg Hohenzollern. Once upon a time I owned this rare silver special piece. *sigh* Sometimes I wish I had kept it. The photos are the ones I recieved when I was enquiring about buying it! Regards MattGibbs.
