    2. hello, thank you for the reply. Do you have any idea what nation it might be? kind regards, Roeland
    3. Hello gents, long time since I've visited the German topics on GMIC as I went collection something else. I bought this uniform, the seller said it was a German cavalry uniform, however I have seen them before and remembered them as something from the navy or artillery. can anybody give me more information on this uniform? Thanks in advance. kind regards, Roeland
    4. I have a Belgian medal which might also be the one that should go with it, I have no idea which one of the medals does, the one from Jef or mine, perhaps they are from the same organastion. Front unie medaille met gesp 1940-1945 (front Union medal with bar 1940-1945) text on medal: Front Unique Belgique
    5. Hello, thanks for your message. I've found out it is a 1850 model, infantry officer sabre. kind regards, Roeland
    6. Hello, no, I'm not dissapointed, I could have won, but I'll keep looking for another. My bid was at 301 euro first, someone was bidding up to 299,then 300, 301, that was my bid, and he stopped bidding. I later raised my bid (automaticaly will go to 302 euro), so he started bidding again (I always bid like 1 euro more, because most people bid round numbers like 50 euro, so I bid 51), however the last bid I did was a round number, the other bidder worked the bid up, and ended 1 euro higher, I didn't trust it as it looked like someone was looking for my max bid, it wouldn't be the first time it happened to me. But what I learned here in this topic will come in handy one day, because I'll keep my eyes open for a uniform like that. kind regards, Roeland
    7. When I bought it the seller said it was mid-19th century (like 1845 or something). I'm also considering to sell it as I can't find a good place for it in my collection, so if anyone is interested, just PM me with a bid and I'll see if it can go for that price. kind regards, Roeland
    8. Hello gents, I have this sword, when I bought it I was told it is a 19th century French infantry officer sword. Can anybody tell me if that is correct, and what is the model? thank you. Kind regards, Roeland
    9. didn't receive a message from the seller, although he only had this day to respond of course. However the auction ended and I didn't win, could have won if I wanted but decided not to bid any higher. It looked like someone was looking for my max. bid, bidding small bids each time (29 bids in total, private auction so no names where shown), it finally went for 1 euro more then I bidded. 381 euro so I didn't win it, nor did I receive the answer from the seller. Still thanks for your help guys, I definately learned something, I'll be looking for such an uniform. kind regards, Roeland
    10. youre quite lucky oli4vercammen, to have found 2 medals in the pocket I believe I have found a picture with someone wearing the medal I asked about.
    11. hello, thank you for your post. I see I have made a mistake myself by saying it is 3 empire, I meant 3th republic, don't know why I got confused, but I'm sorry for the confusion it brought(didn't even notice it myself). I'll ask the seller why he states it is colonial. I'll still buy it, even if it is ''just'' navy instead of something colonial, I like it and I think it would look ice in my collection when I complete it with shoulderboards, the hat etc. I'm always learning on this forum, if I wouldn't have asked I would have bought it but with the wrong information, I always like to know as much of the items I have, I really apreciate the help of other members. I'll lett it know when the seller answers the colonial question. kind regards, Roeland
    12. thanks for the reply, this is very usefull information for me, thank you kind regards, Roeland
    13. he killed 4 germans and took 2 officers captive in that action, quite interesting for ''only using his blade''. He was part of the mounted troops.
    14. hello, thank you for the reply, the seller states in his sale: ''uniforme de grande tenue d'officier de marine coloniale port? de 14 a 31'' he sells more uniforms from the navy. I assumed the term was correct, as it looks like he knows quite a lot because he has sales more items of the same kind. perhaps he means it is a uniform model used in the colonial areas, like in the Netherland, we have a dark collored uniform, in tropic regions we have a white uniform. kind regards, Roeland
    15. hello, thank you for the reply, it is a marine uniform (marine coloniale). here's a picture of the collar and sleeve: is there a certain type of shoulderboard it needs? or just a regular one like used on more uniforms(like the gold collored ones on the infantry uniforms) kind regards, Roeland
    16. it would be superb if anyone has pictures from the items I'm asking for, so I know what to look for if I win the auction of this uniform.
    17. I do think someone has picked up a sword and fought with it, although is was not considered an official weapon for troops on the western front (as said, probably only as a dress sword). On the Western front, swords and cavalry attacks are considered to have last happened in WW1, but of course bajonets where still used for close combat. I do know many russians fought with shovels(nice to cut of heads and arms in city fights), because they lacked guns (or for close combat like done with bajonets), so perhaps on the eastern front or less modern armies used melee weapons in the heat of battle. Or at least I can't image an American bringing his sword along with d-day, or any other modern army. So in my opinion, only guns where used, but someone might have picked up a sword as last defence or lack of other weapons, but it is not documented as fights in WW2 are considered to be fought with guns and perhaps only a few people used melee instead of whole armies, regiments or groups, so it would just be an exception.
    18. Hello gents, I saw this French uniform, and I am trying to buy it, however I have some questions. -what kind of pants should go with it -what kind of bicorne(the hat) -should there be any shoulderboards on it, or should it just be like this (the 2 stripes) thanks for the help kind regards, Roeland
    19. I bought this german helmet, Could anybody help me by telling me the type of helmet (M35?) thank you.
    20. Thanks for the replies, I guess he isn't one of these or he must be the one born in 1897 (I think the others are the same person), or else it couldn't be that he was a Colonel before WW2. The uniform is still missing some items, such as a fouragere and feathers on the kepie (the hat/cap). He is an infantry officer (which you can see by looking at the red piping and no emblems indicating a certain branch). The Dutch had their ranks in the neck not on the shoulderbourds, this one has (feels like real metal, with gold on it, in my country we call it ''gouddraad'' gold threads) neck with 3 stars, indicating a colonel. I can compare the uniform with a uniform of a captain. 1st picture above is a captain, a normal black neck with 3 stars, the colonel as next to it and below, gold neck with 3 stars: after the 2nd WW, the ranks where indicated on the shoulder boards. The shoulder boards should be flat and in a straight line as below, the one I had on the colonel uniform are for a different type of uniform. actually quite a weird story on those shoulder boards, I asked a well know Dutch collector(one of the largest Dutch WW2 collectors) if he had some matching ones for me as they where missing(and I didn't know what should be on it) and he sold me these for 30 euro. 2 months larer he aproached me when he saw I had this uniform, and told me he wanted to buy it, but the shoulder boards where wrong and that affected the price, he said he thought it was very stupid of me to display it completely wrong and it was rubish, the uniform wouldn't be worth much because of my error, he offered me the same price for the entire uniform as I paid him for the shoulderboards alone, he didn't realised it was me, as he didn't see my name on the site. But I never buy anything from him again, as I found out this isn't the only thing he did to someone, and he is very agressive in his emails, like in the email about buying the uniform, he didn't know em(or at least he thought he didn't) and called me stupid etc. but apart from that strange story, after the war the ranks where put on the shoulder boards, like this(see pictures below), a captain and colonel. The difference is no longer in the golden neck, but indicated by a golden leaf bar.
    21. Hello gents, my brother in law asked me if I could find more information on this French field-telephone. I had no idea myself because I'm not in to field-telephones, so I hope someone else recognises it. My borther in law said he had seen one looking a lot like this in a museum in Paris, used by the French resistance, he however didn't know if the one he had is the same model or even the same age, his is probably younger. Who can tell me more about it; the type, age, value etc. I believe he also has the original protection bag for it. thanks in advance. kind regards, Roeland
    22. thanks for the information gents, micha, what do you mean with the somewhat different core? I don't understand the difference.
