Dear Gentlemen, Several years ago, I acquired this Polish ribbon bar. Is it genuine? There seems to be an odd order of precedence. I am unsure of how to display it as 'A' or 'B'. Yours sincerely, No one

Dear TracA, "if the Rising Sun and Sacred Treasure were of different ranks, then the highest rank is worn first." It's not uncommon for the Order of the Sacred Treasure to take precedence over the Order of the Rising Sun. Yours sincerely, No one

Dear Gentlemen, The identification is now available, albeit with some delay. Despite having different devices, the two others are more or less the same. On the third picture, the ribbon in the middle of the last "line (6th)" is the "Medal of Labour". Yours sincerely, No one

Dear TracA, Yes, you are right. This bar should be identified as Showa Era, and the 4th ribbon is for the unofficial commemorative medal. Of the "China Incident War Medal" and "Great East Asia War" only one could be awarded. Yours sincerely, No one

Dear Gentlemen, The "The First National Census Commemorative Medal" was created by Imperial Edict nº722 Taishō 10th Year (1920). In his excellent monograph "Orders & Medals of Japan and Associated States" James W. Peterson wrote about the obverse, I quote "... the figure of a local official of the Taika era (645 A.D.) ...". This official is a Kokushi (国司). Dear Gentlemen, Two badges of President Ngô Đình Diệm, the first president of the Republic Of Vietnam. Ngo Dinh Diem - Wikipedia A very interesting book : The Lost Mandate of Heaven: The American Betrayal of Ngo Dinh Diem, President of Vietnam * Chí Sĩ is not an easy word to translate, depending on the context. Dear Gentlemen, Thank you TracA. I also forgot to say that Kikusui was the name of a Japanese operation during WWII: "Operation Kikusui (菊水作戦, Kikusui sakusen) was a series of suicidal air attacks by Imperial Japanese forces during the Battle of Okinawa against Allied fleets in the waters around Okinawa, as part of Operation Ten-Go. The name of the operation, "Kikusui" (Japanese: 菊水, "Chrysanthemum Water"), comes from the hata-jirushi of the samurai Kusunoki Masashige." Operation Kikusui - Wikipedia Yours sincerely, No one -

Dear Gentlemen, I forgot to mention the mon on the tamatebako, a "half-chrysanthemum crest floating in running water". It's the mon of the Kusunoki clan, a samurai family of the Southern Court who were active during the period of the Northern and Southern Courts, mainly in Kawachi Province. The most famous samourai of this clan is Kusunoki Masashige (楠木 正成, 1294 – 4 July 1336): Kusunoki Masashige - Wikipedia source: Imperial Japanese Army and Navy 2 ISBN978-4-87180-021-1 Yours sincerely, No one -

Dear TracA, Yes, "ヒ" and also a note with the date " 大正四年十一月七日 November 7, 1915". One can assume they were all attributed to Chihaya Kōshirō but without the proper award documents, it's not 100% guaranteed. Yours sincerely, No one -

Dear Gentlemen, A tamatebako (玉手箱) is a "jeweled hand box", "jewel box", "jeweled box", "treasure box", "casket" etc.. In the Japanese folk tale "Urashima Tarō", the hero, Urashima Tarō, receives a tamatebako from the mistress of the sea (Otohime), after his stay at the Dragon Palace (or Hōrai), to which he was invited after saving a turtle. ghp95134 wrote: "Hello Nick, With respect, the katakana is accurate: フールノン [fuurunon]. ヲ is the katakana for the particle "wo"; today the hiragana for the particle を is used."
