1. ...and considering the weather we 'should' be having, i.e, crisp snow everywhere.....(damm that 'global-warming')... ...time to grab your ski's... "3. SA-Ski-Treffen, Oberwiesenthal 1936" .
2. ...here's a rather 'ordinary' (!) tinnie...featuring the same of Horst Wessel....you may have heard of him....a bit of a SA 'martyr'....apparently wrote a little known song.... "Horst-Wessel-Tag, Bielefeld 1933" (Bielefeld being the birth place of HW) .
3. ...another one for the same Sachsen unit... ...this one is all the more appealing due to the use of colour....I have seen a non-coloured version... "Marine-Standarte 2, Sachsen 3.6.34, Skagerrak-Feier" .
4. ...a couple of sea-faring SA tinnies... "Skagerrak 1935 SA Marinestandarte 2" .
5. ...and why not ??? ...is there something happening tomorrow evening that is more important ??? ...I would say that after the 'session' that we have got planned...there will be no danger of me being able to find my arse, even with the aid of an atlas....'cos my whole (pun intended!) sense of direction will be completely buggered (another pun!) .... ...bring on the quines! ...bring on the Hogmanay ! ...and maybe one for the road (still getting over last nights 'practice' run)
6. ...I do like those 'aeroplane' tinnies....great looking items! ...nice to see that your collection is still going strong
7. ...very nice Pete.... ...and well done breathing life back into the 'SA tinnie' marathon ! ...I shall have to post a few of my new additions...but waiting for the best natural light is not that good at the moment...every day is so over cast and dull...not to mention we're only getting about 6 hours proper daylight up here...
8. EDIT : TOPIC HEADER SHOULD READ = GRANDFATHER UNIFORM....(not Great-grandfather!) Hi, As part of an ongoing 'family-tree' history project, we have this photo of my wife's grandfather (on her mother's side)...he fought in WW1...joining up as an underage soldier... We are trying to identify his regiment, so if someone with the knowledge of identifying unit insignia would please have a look.... It looks like there are two types of cap badge being worn... I have no idea if this photo is actually WW1 era, or post WW1...'grandfather' is sitting in front row, second from right... Many thanks!
9. ...now that was bloody quick! ...many thanks for your help Herr General...most appreciated... Regards!
10. Hi, As part of an ongoing 'family-tree' project, my wife's grandfather (on fathers side) was awarded the following four medals....which I guess are all 'I was there' type of medals....(and I sincerely don't mean that in a negative way).... ...he was a supply driver, or something along those lines, came of the beach at Dunkirk, remembers being ordered to drive his truck off the cliffs to wreck them, saw his best friend from childhood die next to him, killed by the straffing Luftwaffe... 'Grandfather' passed away many years ago, so we're trying to piece together history... The first two I sort of recognise...purely from having read Commando comics years ago....they always had a little bit of history printed on the inside cover...descriptions of weapons, medals, uniforms, etc....come on, I'm sure we've all read them ! Please, just a quick explanation for each would be most helpful so we can use that information in the 'family-tree' research... Many thanks...
11. ...thank you for your kind words Sir! ...once upon a time we touched on the subject of postcards and programms that featured the tinnies we collect... ...so with that in mind... "SA-Treffen Brigade 86, Schwaben, 24. und 25. August 1935" ...the postcard was 'cancelled' on the 25th August 1935....the writer on the back mentions attending the 'Brigadetreffen'... .
12. ...not too long ago, I posted a particularly 'ordinary' looking SA tinnie (ahem!)... "SA Brigade 34, Chemnitz 1935" ...here is said tinnie again...matched with a photo of a SA Pioneer 'musiker'....according to a good friend who knows his SA history inside and out...this man's unit was part of SA Brigade 34... . ...and what makes this photo even more special (apart from the fact it's a rare image of a SA Pioneer 'musiker')...is that if you look very closely at his uniform, you will notice the top of half of this very tinnie!....dating the photo to at least sometime in 1935... . ...how I dearly wish the portrait photo was just a couple of inches lower...then we could have seen the entire tinnie in all its glory!... .
13. ...a grouping of three SA tinnies....I've seen these posted by others earlier in this thread, so I thought it best just to group my lot together...Part 2 ! "S.A. Aufmarsch Gruppe Nordmark, 7.Mai 1933 Kiel" "Wehrwettk?mpfe der SA-Gruppe Niederrhein 1939" "Wettkampftage der SA Gruppe Niedersachsen 1938" .
14. ...very nice tinnie....and thanks for sharing here....I've seen many others from your collection on WAF....all very striking...
15. Hi Benten ! ...a very fine looking tinnie... ...it's also great to see you back here...hope all is well...
16. ....SA ! ...this SA tinnie was made for use in Eisenach....the outline at the top of the tinnie is meant to represent the famous Wartburg Castle... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wartburg_Castle "Brigade 44, Brigade-Treffen, Wartburgstadt, Eisenach, 21/22.April 1934" .
17. ...you could always do a group shot of those SA, like I did.....just to be able to show them off....would be nice to see which one's you've got...
18. ...aye, aye, looks like Pete's been busy! ...another very fine selection of tinnies :-) ...especially like the plastic 'tinnie'....'Wolfenb?ttel'....the detail seems to be so sharp on plastic and has that 'just been made' look about it....have to admit, I've got a bit of a soft spot for the plastic type (not in a fetish way or anything!)... ...keep up the good work!
19. ...SA ! ...a fine athletic SA-mann showing his 'leap of faith'... "S.A. Sportfest-Sportplatzeinweih, Standarte 143, Recklinghausen" .
20. ...great selection of tinnies Pete! ...I hope to have a few new ones shortly
21. ...a grouping of three SA tinnies....I've seen these posted by others earlier in this thread, so I thought it best just to group my lot together... "SA -Gruppe Hochland, SA-Gruppen Wettk?mpfe 1939" "SA Wehrkampfe Tage Nordsee 1939" "Kampftage Der Fr?nkischen SA 1937" .
