That piece surprised me at the Flohnheim show! And I would have been an idiot not to pick it up! Not easy to find-and in that condition ....A few blued core pieces are still missing,but who knows,may be this could be a good collecting year! Micha

I'm not very interested in my '39 iron crosses at the moment-but this one I had to take! A beautiful "14" maker marked EK! So now it's just the "128" that's missing from the regular Eks. Micha

I've been to a small local show today (Flohnheim)-usualy to meet some collector friends and budds-This time I had to pick up something for my '39 collection.And while I was walking around I saw it! Something dusty,the gun blue shined under the dirt.Seen the marking,paid the dealer.....mine! An upgrade,still not perfect but much better than the other one in my collection. A good show.....

It looks like I've got a hand for the ugly iron crosses-that one I've bought at the Illingen show last minute(didn't want to go home with just a Weizenbier as the only investment ) Anyway,I would put this one in the 30ies! When I remember right-Steve,I'm sure you've got a 1st class of this variation? The frame is everything but no silver.Could be brass or some yellowish metal.... The core is magnetic. Micha

I've got a bit time at the moment and so I went thru the "undocumented" 2nd classes I have stored in a box.You know,all these crosses you've picked up and then forgot to archive them. Here's something that I found....From the stamped ribbon ring its a CD. And a 935......But the cross? the ribbon ring is thinner as usual found on CD crosses. The core design is close but clearly different.Look at the numbers-the distance between the 9 and the one....I remember an older thread(I can't find it anymore) where Mike and I had a kind of a controversial discussion about a "square" EK1.Finally we found out here ar two different core designs.So-could it be that they (Carl Dillenius) have made 2nd classes also with something like the 2nd core design of the "square" crosses?Hmmm........Anyway,here are the pics. One reply....thank you,Chris! There are two core designs at the 1st class crosses. In my opinion they are from the same maker.The last one(the screwback you've pointed out) is regular(if there's a stamp) marked with the letters "SILBER" on the backplate.The silver content is very low(that's why it's marked just with the letters SILBER and not with a proper 800 ect...).The other core variation is regular (if there's a stamp...) marked with "800" or ""930".Just the example I borrowed the pictures from the WAF(collection stdub) is a mix! It should have the "800" or the "930" on the back instead of the letters "SILBER" Micha

The screwback variation. My example is only stamped with an "*" at the screw.I've seen also exmples with that marking at the washer.(There's also a pinback variation stamped with the"*"-that marking is located at the pin!) Back the the screwbak-of course there are also exaples marked with "SILBER" at the backside-and I know examples they are additional marked with "Sedlatzeck".But as I count him as a retailer it's not a "real" variation of these crosses.
