    1. Thanks. I did not know this sort of weapon was used then. For a then and now, this is the only photo I can find on the net. The building remains unchanged (on the right of this photo).
    2. Here is a postcard of German soldiers in the centre of Lille (France) during WW1.
    3. Great collection and interesting photos! Can we assume that you are from Douai?
    4. Yes indeed, insh'allah
    5. Please contact me if you have any documents in the old Ottoman language that you would like translating into English. Although my friend will need to charge for his time, I think it is worth it in the long run to know more about our documents and the history behind them.
    6. A friend of mine got it translated. The spelling of the name is wrong as I am told Ottoman Turkish relies on phonetics. The man was in fact August Schempp, described on the back as Sergeant at the cannon factory (??), 25th division, 13th Regiment, 3rd battalion and 11th battery. The dates are wrong and should be 1916-1917 I think. Shame we do not have a photo of this chap!
    7. Got this other certificate a while ago but never got round to posting it. It was in fact discussed a long time ago on another forum by the previous owner
    8. Yes, last time I went there, there were a few little piles of "dust" under the mummies stored in the big glass cabinets. For those of you who have not been there, these glass cabinets are very similar to the ones you saw at school and which held various bottles in the chemistry rooms....so not airtight in any way. Typical of the place unfortunately. All that wealth of history just being left to rot....
    9. Very impressive, thanks. Amazing what can come out of a small photo worth only a few ?.
