I believe that you are correct. Beneath the two white rings, a silhouette of an aircraft, is painted on the barrel. I believe that the dark rings, are for vehicles. Snoopy -

This is a Revell 1:48 scale, Messerschmidt Bf 109 G-10 AS. The original pictures came out a bit dark, so I had to brighten them up a bit, in photo shop. Snoopy
