  1. OMON to the National Guard? How incredibly odd! It's the equivalent to SWAT...
  2. I'd even go as far as to say it was a wartime confection. Post war, the commemorative medal(s) would've appeared in between these two.
  3. Wow! How on Earth did I miss that? No more VV MVD... Dang... Is OMON going into the Ministry of Justice or the FSB? OMG I hadn't thought of that... They'll produce new awards... Megan'll l-o-v-e that!
  4. Egorka (Igor) just sent me the research for my Order of the Red Banner. Excellent and incredibly fast work! I highly recommend the gentleman's services! I was half expecting an award for long service, imagine my surprise at reading this.... AWARD CITATION GUSCHA VASILY ANISIMOVICH, Guards rifleman, Machine gunner, 1st MG company, 151th Guards Rifle Regiment, 52nd Guards Rifle "Order of Lenin" and "Order of Suvorov" Rigskaya Division. Recommended for "HERO OF THE SOVIET UNION" Brief and specific description of the personal feat or merit "As a member of an assau
  5. I don't see anything that might suggest this isn't authentic...
  6. No, we have quite restrictive regulations on the wear of foreign awards. If a Canadian award is given for the same reason, then any connected foreign one will NOT be allowed to be worn. You cannot wear 2 medals awarded for the same reason such as a tour of operations, or two decorations for bravery... Should one do an act of valour in a foreign country and be awarded a foreign decoration, the recipient would either receive the foreign decoration or the Canadian equivalent should that foreign country recommend it. For example, the 1990-91 Gulf War, Canada produced and awarded a campaign
  7. And RCAF personnel will not get permission to wear them if issued the medal... *SIGH*
  8. Gents... A Russian collector has asked me to confirm if his recent purchases are indeed real. Personally, I've never seen these horrors before, they don't even conform to the description in the establishment decree. The reverse is all wrong, the face looks like a blow up doll, the wreath is completely wrong and at the wrong place, but still... So many different makers of French awards, and Belgian makers making the cheapest ugliest ones (out of spite?) . I asked Marc Champenois of France Phaléristique and he's never seen these before but still, I have to ask. Can anybody confirm horr
  9. O-M-G... Each badge has a dozen variations in the shape of the central medallion! The establishment order is looooong... Still sorting it out.
  10. Not a new casting, the new medals are actually minted. This predates the "current administration"...
  11. I was half expecting at the very minimum a new clasp to the SSM besides the EXPEDITION one... Anybody who served in Germany before now going to Poland of the Baltic states gets nada... Notice the new SSM? Not the old rudely casted, barely filed down before triple plating like mine but new crisp, minted ones from the RCM.

Wow... And I can barely draw a realistic stick man...

  14. You sure you can't claim the WW1 medals? if you're the direct descendant... Might be worth an e-mail...
  15. Repos légionaire... Et couvres-toi la noix de coco au soleil!
  16. Say what? Your French is almost as good as mine... What gives? Did you break your reading glasses old man?
  17. Julière Louis (CI ?) 1942 Caporal au 1/23 (10.8 ?) en 1941 à la base aérienne de (Toulouse ?) (AJ97 ?) Tunisie 1942/43, Gr "Lafayette". Campagnes d'A.F. (Gi ?), Corse France Alsace. Libéré en août 1945 An airman and POW?
  18. President Putin and Defence Minister Shoigu have officialised the formation of the "young army", the equivalent of the cadet movement in Commonwealth countries. Youngsters from 11 to 18 in para-military units learning citizenship, patriotic history, military tradition, sports, same as our cadet movement. Instructor cadre for now will come from the military and reserve/retired list. Cadet instructors are recognizable by the breast insignia worn above the right breast pocket.
  19. Insignia for an air force base/unit commander (usually full colonel). Insignia of the Chief of the personnel office of the Defence Ministry.
  20. I thought this forum included all military collectibles?
  21. Chief of the personnel office of the Defence Ministry wearing his senior appointment badge over the right breast pocket. Insignia (cloth) for the commander of a railway troop brigade. It appears these were instituted by Order of the Minister of National Defence No 490 of 9 August 2016. From what I read in a Russian forum, this puppy is approximately 100 pages thick!
  22. The Defence Ministry has issued new insignia for senior appointments, from commander-in-chief of the army all the way down to individual unit commanders, akin the Russian navy's surface ship and sub commander's badge. Air force squadron commanders, division commanders, chiefs of military hospitals, regimental, brigade... Worn over the right breast pocket. I've seen them in both metal and cloth. I've seen some of them, there's probably a ton of different ones. Here's a sample below. As I find more info, I'll fill you in. These will most definitely become highly collectible!
  23. Thanks Megs, this is one I wasn't even looking for due to the difficulty in finding them. I had resigned myself to the fact I wasn't going to get one ever... Then voilà! He seriously made my XMas card list for a loooong time!
