Hi all! I just found this on ebay not too long ago, a Stalin Prize 3rd class awarded to the head of the Donbass coal mines. Link below. Just though it was an interesting piece to bring to your attention, considering that it is so rare and was awarded to such an important person. Any thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...=tab%3DWatching -Alex

Help with document
RedMaestro replied to RedMaestro's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
Thanks for the help! Just two more questions. First, can the regimental war diary mentioned in the link be accessed? If so, then how? Also, are there any other places where I can find more information on this soldier's career? Thanks again! -Alex -
I recently bought a set of medals (1914 star, British war medal, victory medal, and good conduct medal) belonging to Company Quartermaster Sergeant Herbert Henry Waldren. He served in the 15682 regiment, part of the Royal Hong Kong Garrison Artillery. Does anyone know anything about this regiment, or where I might find information on it? I found the following document in the British National Archives. Any idea what it means? Thanks for your help! -Alex

Wow! $1000! That really is a lot more than I expected. I have a nagging suspicion that my flag might not be double-sided though, so I have to check that. Thanks for the info everyone!

Soviet Partisan Medals - 1st and 2nd Class
RedMaestro replied to a topic in USSR: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
Two partisan medals just sold on ebay. The 1st class was $280, and the 2nd class $171.50. The links are below if you want to look at the pictures. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...bayphotohosting http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...4.cWAT.m240.lVI -
Unfortunately, the "collection room" doesn't exist yet, though it might be in a few years. I'm hesitant to display a giant swastika like that anywhere in the house though (imagine the neighbors). In the meantime though, could you recommend a way to store it to protect it from damage (mold, mildew, etc.). Is there anything better than folding up in a box in a dry place?

This the first soviet group I have purchased. I think the name is Grigory Didysenko, but that is just what I was told. The set includes 2 red stars (#1,820,314 and #3,130,670) a 1985 OGPW (#3,514,214) an un-numbered medal for military merit, a medal for victory over Japan, 30 years of the red army, and 40 years of the GPW. The document also shows an order of lenin (missing from set, #292,792) that I belive might have been added by the seller . There is also the order book for the OGPW, what I think is a military navigator's ID, and what appears to be a passport (I could easily be wrong, scans of all sheets with writing below). The most recent addition to the document was dated 2001. Any thoughts or information on anything here? I will look into getting research done, and I'll see if some friends of mine can translate anything.

Hi All! Thanks for editing the title, and once again, I apoligize for that. Thanks for the idea Brian! I have some Japanese friends who might be able to help me with translating. As for the verification of the signature, I have no "official" confirmation. My father once took an antique dealer (not his uncle) who seemed to think it was real and offered $200 for it. He also compared it to a MacArthur signature that a friend (an autograph collector) owned. They supposedly look exacly alike. I tried to find any information on Sargent Cross on the internet, but that seems just about impossible. Do you know where a good place to look would be? -Alex

I'm sorry about "jap." There wasn't enough room to fit the entire word "Japanese." I didn't mean to be insulting. As for the pen, I guess it can't be felt tip, as they were invented in the 1960's. I think it is more likely the way the ink took to the silk.
