However in Russian Wikipedia his nickname is Andrew. So I checked his book SPECIAL TASKS : THE MEMOIRS OF AN UNWANTED WITNESS - A SOVIET SPYMASTER Pavel Sudoplatov and Anatoli Sudoplatov (Little Brown, Boston, 1994). In part "Meeting with Beria" you can read that his nickname is Andrew. Sorry that this information is not available on english sites...

Correct, Famous Soviet "Spymaster" and NKVD "killer" Sudoplatov was sentenced to 15 years in prison in 1953 (end of Stalin era)... Your turn, Jim
