All, Could I pick your brains? A work colleague's wife is the granddaughter of a 4 Gebirgsj?ger Division veteran who has since passed away. She is currently devoted to finding out as much about the 4 Gebirgsj?ger as possible. Could any one recommend reference material on this division that is best for historical and pictural content? (She speaks both German and English.) I believe she has this book "Enzian und Edelweiss Die 4. Gebirgs-Division 1940 - 1945" by Julius Braun but has found it too technical. I have conducted some internet research and see there is another author who seems to specialise in Gebirgs Division - Roland Kaltenegger. Would you recommend any of his works? Are there any other books that would be recommended? I found a few websites but there's not a huge amount of detailed information: http://www.gebirgsjaeger.4mg.com/4gebdiv.htm http://www.feldgrau.com/4hg.html http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=1047 Thanks Richard

EK 1939 L/56 EKII for consideration...
Richard Gordon replied to robert pierce's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Nice EK2s! Unfortunately I don't have a L/56 to add to the thread. Rich -
Without a close-up of the mark it's impossible to tell as what I can see on the screen is simply too small. I'm thinking it's not a maker mark at all just a random mark on the pin. Rich

Naoki, It looks to be a nice used but not abused DKiG. Nice to see the enamel is not damaged. Here's mine. It hasn't seen much action. Perhaps only used on home leave or maybe posthumous. Rich

Eric I'm very impressed with the results on the core. What did you use? Rich -

I do believe you are correct! Mike, it does look flat but in fact is convex but only slightly. Thanks gents! Rich -

The reverse is fairly plain marked only for silver content. The catch is quite thick, the pin is flat-bottom but curved on the exterior side. The hinge is interesting as it sits raised on a slim block. -
I wonder if you guys and gals can identify the maker of this one? It looks to have has a blued core (I can't see a trace of paint anywhere) with an interesting crown and high date.

Thanks! Les, you hit the nail on the head! My first was the BB&Co, then the '800' Austrian example. I've seen Godet's, AWS and JH Werner examples up for sale which I would love to add but they are oh, so expensive! I'm always on the look-out for nice pin-backs. Another little obsession. Rich
