    1. Brian, those are really beautiful pieces. I would be torn between having them safely tucked away and having them out and accessible so I could look at them all the time. Prudence dictates the former and yet... As an aside, as the grandson of the General, have you ever had the desire to get in touch with the grandchildren of his contemporaries and his peers? Some of them must still be around. It might be really neat to compare notes and impressions. Just a thought. Regards, Chris B.
    2. Nice artwork Mark. That M262 on the bottom row looks neat. I always thought it would be really impressive to have some aviation art together with some badges, medals and cufftitles all mounted and framed together. Regards, Chris B.
    3. Neat stamps guys. Lots of "Heroic" artwork. The unknown stamp almost looks like England next to North America. You've got a vague Hudsons Bay at the top of the landmass and a Gulf of Mexico at the bottom, minus South America, of course. Is that possible? Cheers, Chris B. ... On second thought...Nahhh.
    4. Hi Joe. That first black woundbadge award is pretty poignant. You can just picture that Oberstabsarzt sitting in some bunker somewhere thinking, " This country is sliding into oblivion and I'm filling out these senseless forms for these poor souls . Five and a half years of this, when will it end?" Cheers, Chris B.
    5. Thanks James. I recall hearing somewhere that the canadian merchants where somewhat overlooked compared to other branches, even though their task was every bit as dangerous and important as those in combatant roles. Regards, Chris B.
    6. That's nice, K.R. A real imaginative set-up and all the medals and shields have that "been there" look. Is your display a glass topped table or is it a vertically standing display cabinet? Nice job. Regards, Chris B.
    7. Hi all. I'm just curious. Did the Canadian Merchant seamen in WW2 ever get a campaign medal for their services? Thanks, and regards, Chris B.
    8. Thanks again for the info. I had a picture of my uncle who was at the second battle of Narva. He had the EK2, Ostmed. and Rumanian Med. but no 4 year ribbon on his ribbon bar even though he had more than four years in by then. That explains it. Regards, Chris B.
    9. I have a question about the Wehrmacht 4 year servicemedals with the blue ribbons. Were these issued during the war? In other words, if you were drafted or joined up in October 1939, could you expect to get a 4 year medal in Oct. 1943? Just curious. Regards, Chris.
    10. "eignen" wagen could be your "own" car. I think I saw that blurb in an early advertisement for the Volkswagen. "you have to save five marks a week, if you want to drive your own car". Regards, Chris B.
    11. Thanks for the quick reply Rick. I've always liked that medal. I think it would look neat framed, under glass, with a copy of the Zeugnis. Regards, Chris B.
    12. Hello Gentlemen. The delving of some of the members into their ancestors military past has prompted me into trying a little quest of my own. Perhaps, with your help, I can find a few snippets of information about my great great grandfather from my mother's side. I was recently given a xerox copy of his Fuehrungs- Zeugnis dated Thorn, 20th September 1897. His name was Paul Viktor Kamrovski. He served as a Musketier in the 12th Kompagnie Infanterie-Regiments von Borcke 4th Pommersches Nr. 21., from October 16th, 1895 to September 20th, 1897.He was born in 1875, Bezirk Danzig. On the document the number 22 Truppen Stammrolle for 1895 Muster 7 is cited. My question is if anyone can find his name on a stammrolle and post the scan, if anyone could tell me which, if any, peacetime medals he would be eligible for, and finally, if he was recalled as a middle aged guy in WW1. Many thanks in advance. Best regards, Chris B.
    13. Brian, I think the fact that you can trace your illustrious family name back through the centuries is just fantastic . Are you and your son in the Gotha? Have you ever contacted some of the Adelsgesellschaften in Germany? And I thought an uncle with an EK1 was cool. To have had a grandfather with a PLM is really special. Regards, Chris.
    14. Could be "Honour the work, respect the worker". Achten means to attend also.Like Achtung means pay attention. I think its one of those words that does not translate well.
