    1. Hello all, Need some expert opinions here....... Is this Oldenburg order good or bad ??? Also. any idea of a fair value ? Cheers Mark
    2. Hey Brian, Ok.... just to be clear.. the one I pictured.. would be the Knight 1st class... which is what Nyholm was awarded (just want to clarify this before I buy it). Thanks ! Mark
    3. Hey Guys, Just want to confirm that the Sword order is the Knight class with enamel and not the lower grade.... Cheers Mark
    4. Hey Mike, Thanks.... so that would mean that: Bar one: Denmark, Order of Dannebrog, Silver Merit Cross Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Greifen Orden (Knight 1. class) Sweden, Order of the Sword (Knight 1. class) Bar two: Anhalt, Albrecht der B?r (Knight 1. class) - Russia, Order of St, Anne (3. class) Sure will look purty when it's done...... (if it doesn't break the bank first ) Cheers Mark
    5. Well... it WILL be.. when I sell it Cheers Mark
    6. Hey Guys, Wow.. ok..I step away for a couple of meetings and this thread had a ton of activitiy..... Ok.. first....... Mike, my thoughts on the size of the medal bars was just a guess..... and since I don't have any to measure the pins and your 6 banger was 15cm... it only made sense about the 3 medal bar being 8cm. Ok.. I have asked for better pics (front and back).... It was my option that the swords for the Oldenburg did not come into existance until 1914 (could be wrong) so if that is the case.. his would be without swords. Cheers Mark
    7. Hey Brian, I'll make the scan once I get it in hand.... Thanks for the warning on the Oldenburg.....If you know of one... please let me know. Cheers Mark
    8. Hey Guys, Well... the Silver Merit Cross in on it's way.. thanks for the thoughts on the value..... I have found a few of the others.. but they seem kind of common so I might wait to see what comes up.... The Griffen is about $500.... The oldenburg... might be $1200 (I have a line on one but I think there is enamel damage)... I have yet to find a St. Anne........ The Sword I found for around $600 (gold).... The Italian Crown is everywhere so that's not a problem.... I Vasa is around.. and the going rate seems to be about $1000 (gold)..... I really hope that the Orange Nassu can be without swords.. as with swords will be very tough I'm afraid (I posted in another link.. but no replies yet)..... Mike, With the two sets of loops... would it be safe to say that the top set (8 cm) would be for 3 medals and the bottom set (5.5cm) would be for 2 medals ? Cheers Mark
    9. Hey Guys, Do you have any idea what a 'reasonable' price would be for some of these orders....... as I have no idea what the going rates are.... For instance.. I know a dealer who has the silver Merit cross for Christian IX for about $550...... (which would work for a filler until I can find the correct one)... But I have no idea if that is a good or bad price... Also.. the Dannebrog commanders set as there seems to be a wide price range.... Cheers Mark
    10. Ok guys, I hope this pic comes out... here are the loops and the size of the loops (distance) on the tunic........ Any idea of what was worn where ? Cheers Mark
    11. Hey Ed, Why would there be an ethics question about this ?? If no bar was destroyed to create the new bar and it was created from singles... and if it was not passed off as 'original'.... what is the ethics issue ? To create a uniform display that is accuate to the original owner, in my mind, is the best possible option (keeping in mind my two previous requirments). Mike, Would the owner continue to wear the originally cyphered order once a new ruler was power or would they then use the new cypher in the event that a new medal bar was made ? Cheers Mark
    12. Hey Brian, I'm always open for assistance when it comes to locating the orders...... I have found a few with some on-line deals.. but they are always 'pricey'..... so if you know of any.. please let me know..... especially the commander's sets and orders... and perhaps the Silver merit cross... I found one.. but it's for Christian X...... So.. let me know if you come across any ! PS.... I LOVE that bar of yours !!!!!! Cheers and thanks ! Mark
    13. Hey Mike, Thanks for posting... !! What is the length of the pin (from hook to hinge )? also... how are the medals secured inside the ribbons ? Cheers Mark
    14. Hey Brian, Yes.. I plan on creating a bar for the display.... I've made Brit ones before....... and I knoew someone who could make the German style..... I'll worry about that once I can find all the correct orders/medals..... Mike.... can you post a complete front and back pic of your bar ? Cheers Mark
    15. Ok.... so we have the first 4..... Dannebrog, Griffen, Sword, St. Anne..... so.... what is the last one with the light collored ribbon with dark stripes ? It looks like it might even have a rosette on the ribbon ???? Now... granted... this pic was taken post 1926 sooooo perhaps it's something that came after that. Cheers Mark
    16. Hey Guys, I need an expert's advice.... in another thread I have going (in this same group) is called Danish General Anders Gjedde Nyholm Nyholm was awarded the Oranje commanders 1st class..... but I'm curious as to whether it would be with out without swords.... Can someone take a look at that thread and let me know which it might be ? Cheers and thanks ! Mark
    17. Hey Mike, Actually... you just answered another quesiton I had... on his tunic.. there is a set of loops that are just slightly under the overlap portion of the tunic on the right side.. that would explain those I'll try to take some pics later today of the tunic and post them... showing osme close ups and the loops arraingments. Also... I think the second medal could be the Anhalt Bear...... as the ribbon colors kind of match up.... (just a guess)... Cheers M
    18. Hi Mike, It's the neck awards that I'm curious about.. as far as how they were worn....... Normally, on single breasted tunics (i.e. Imperial German).. they would wear them down the center... basically one for each button..... But on a double breasted tunic (like Nyholm's).... I don't know where they would be worn ? Bummer about the picture... I was hoping it was one that you had scanned somewhere....... I'll have to ask the Dutch boys about the Netherland, Oranje-Nassau Order..... It was my opinion that the swords was a war time award... but I'm not certain. Cheers Mark
    19. Oh..... and would it me safe to assume that the Netherland, Oranje-Nassau Order would be without swords ? Cheers M
    20. Hey Mike, Ok..... this is AWSOME !!!! I can't believe that this information was available at the library..... I can't think of any other country that would have this much information openly available for officer's records.... AND... you found a pic of him wearing my uniform Question..... will the library (for a fee) make a copy of that photo for me (some will.. some wont) ? Now........ to find the missing parts (hat, belt etc)..... and the orders......... Oh...... I can't tell in his pic... but how would he have worn that many commander's orders ? You've gone 'above and beyond' in your research... and it is greatly appreciated ! Cheers Mark
    21. Hey Mike, If you make a trip to the library.... let's see what he had in 1925 (just prior to his promotion).... Since the tunic is loaded with loops... and the boards are for Major General..... I thik this would be the best fit.... Also..... if you can find (or have) any period pics of general's with the style uniform... I would love to see how the orders/medals are worn. My tunic... has loops for two short medal bars (perhaps 3 and 2 medals each)..... 4 sets of loops on the left breat for stars and two sets of loops on the right breast for stars....... I'm also curious as to how the commanders orders were worn... since this is a double breasted uniform.... they would not go down the middle soooo ???? Thanks again for your help... it is greatly appreciated ! Cheers Mark
    22. Hey Mike, That is great info.... and I really appreciate it........ So...... check me and see if I'm correct.... If I were to repicate his awards as of, say, 1925 Awards circa 1925 Rank, Major General Medal bar (7 medals): Denmark, Order of Dannebrog, Silver Merit Cross (awarded 14. Jan. 1909) Anhalt, Albrecht der B?r (Knight 1. class) Finland, "Skyddsk?rernas Fortjenstkors" Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Greifen Orden (Knight 1. class) Oldenburg, House- and Merit Order ('Offizierskreuz') Russia, Order of St, Anne (3. class) Sweden, Order of the Sword (Knight 1. class, awarded 1906) Neck Orders: Denmark, Order of Dannebrog (Commander - Christian X version) Finland, Order of the White Rose (Commander 1. class) France, Legion d'Honneur (Commander) Italy, Order of the Crown (Commander 1. class) Netherland, Oranje-Nassau Order (Commander 1. class) Sweden, Order of Vasa (Commander, awarded 1912) Breast Star: Belgium, Order of the Crown (Grand Cross) I'm not sure as to the date of the Belgium Crown, the Finnish orders or the Italian... Whatcha think ? Cheers Mark
    23. Hey Mike, This is GREAT stuff......... but I have a couple of questions..... I know what the Dannebrog order is.. but I'm not at all famillar with the Order of Dannebrog, Silver Merit Cross ? Also... what is the Finland, "Skyddsk?rernas Fortjenstkors" as I can't find reference to that in any of my books. Would he have have any campaign type medals that would not be listed in this reference ? On another side...... do you have any examples of what the mounted Danish medalbars would look like.... His tunic has two rows of loops for two medal bars... perhaps the top one with 4 medals and the bottom one with 3.... Cheers Mark
