There are records available of the killed (CWGC website, though less than perfect), wounded, POWs (European published, Asian harder to do but they can be accessed). For VCOs, the Army Lists help.For others, records are still with the Ministry of Defence and/or with the regiments, and afforts are underway to locate, perserve, and make those records available.

These may have come as recycling straight from the (former) USSR but may also have come from Afghanistan. Research requests are out, so watch, and wait, and wait, and . . . . You never know what you'll find where. (And they were really, REALLY cheap! Under US $40 for both.)

You never know what you will find where. Recently, in New Delhi, India, I picked up two Soviet medals in a junk lot (mainly of Motherhood Orders) apprently sent for melting. 1- Medal for Gallantry, Type 1, var. 1/2 - No. 3367

Example of standard Indian naming on the Pacific Star for someone who almost certainly went into the bag at Singapore (research awaits). From his group (1939-45, Pacific, War).

A nice short all-named WWII group recently mounted. 8333 Havildar Nand Singh, 15th Punjab Regiment 1- 1939-45 Star - "8333 HAV.NAND SINGH, 15 PUNJAB R." 2- Burma Star - "8333 HAV.NAND SINGH, 15 PUNJAB R." 3- War Medal 1939-45 - "8333 HAV.NAND SINGH, 15 PUNJAB R." 4- India Service Medal - "8333 HAV.NAND SINGH, 15 PUNJAB R."

Just a few trios from the latest yatra which, though as yet naked and unbathed, may restore your hopes for WWI groups from India. 1- 2119 RFMN.HARAKMAN GURUNG. 2-3 GRKS. (note: 1914 Star) 2- 785 HAVR. JAIMAL SINGH, 33 PJBIS. 3- 1822 SEPOY KAPURA, 1/41/DOGRAS. More to come.

NANDA RAM, R.I.A.S.C. (M.T.)" 4- Italy Star - "MTN/SEP. NANDA RAM, R.I.A.S.C. (M.T.)" 5- Defence Medal -"MTN/SEP. NANDA RAM, R.I.A.S.C. (M.T.)" 6- War Medal1939-45 - "MTN/SEP. NANDA RAM, R.I.A.S.C.
