    1. Yes, the first one probably was fake. The second one seems to be a mis-match and NOT the medal of the guy whose impressive documents you have. A marriage made in hell. These things are not for mix-and-match. Sigh . . . . Nice documents, though! A shame his medals -- all of them -- have disappeared.
    2. Thanks, mate! Especially after 1992, these have gone crazy. Some day someone may sort them out. Maybe the best we can do now is to record them. Has anyone ever seen one with the pre-1960 coat of arms? Maybe R 46 is all we see of the pre-1960 badges? Speaking of that, anyone ever seen a badge for Choibalsan State University? Thanks again!
    3. Enough for now! More later. Please fill in the holes . . .
    4. R NIB 10 -- Unknown What does the abbreviation mean?? With the post-1992 coat of arms.

    8. R NIB 06 -- Unknown And, since 1992, these things seem to have proliferated like crazy! What does the abbreviation mean?? With the post-1992 coat of arms. Two specimens.
    9. R NIB 05 -- Unknown What does the abbreviation mean?? With the 1960-92 coat of arms.
    10. R NIB 04 -- Unknown What does the abbreviation mean?? With the 1960-92 coat of arms. Two specimens, one with lucite backing. Very odd.
    11. R NIB 03 -- Chengiz Khan Academy What do they teach??
    12. R 78 -- Pin of a Private College Private (for-profit?) colleges seem to have proliferated like crazy. So have their badges? Battushig lists this one.
    13. R 81 (var) -- White Laval College A significant variation with green enamel.
    14. R 71 -- University of Marxism and Leninism Two specimens.
    15. R 62 -- Institute of Agriculture Shown above, but here are three slightly different specimens. Displays the TREMENDOUS variability seen in these badges. With the 1960-92 coat of arms.
    16. R 57 -- Medical Institute With the 1960-92 coat of arms.
    17. R 54 (var) -- State Pedagocical Institute Significantly different from what Battushig shows! Blue enamel rather than green. With the 1960-92 coat of arms.
    18. R 48 -- Party Institute Though shown above, here are a couple of minor variants. With the 1960-92 coat of arms.
    19. R 47 -- Mongolian State University As above. With the 1960-92 coat of arms. The post-1992 arms show up on R 85.
    20. Those immensely complex and confusing "school diamonds" have their own thread, see: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=6247
    21. Which one? Will work on a reading of the whole bar . . . Nice Mongolian "thread" riobbon bar, by the way. The first one I have seen. I associate them with West Asia.
    22. Photo 1: Ohhhh . . . these "education diamonds" . . . I have been avoidiung putting them up. Battushig shows some, including some he doesn't know (even now) and guesses there are 3 times the number "out there" (almost as bad as the aimag badges!). I have no clue on the two in photo #1 - teh first one is 1960-92 and the second is post-1992, does that help? Guess I should put mine up . . . ? Photo 2 is obviously some sort of international friendship thing from 1961, buit what does the legend say?? Photo 3 is M 03, Outstanding Worker of Trade -- see: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10193&st=01 Have you ordered Battushig's book? Also, browsing the various threads here can be useful.
    23. While I'd rather await those more expert than I, let me observe: 1- Rule #1 - "Buy the item, not the story." Without A LOT of proof (=documents), I run far and fast from anything with an obviously invented fantasy story like this one. While there were defectors (the play "Nanawati"/film "The Beast" has some roots in reality), most defectors were pretty promptly dealt with by Afghan women seeking badal/revenge. 2- The medal is, of course, a (fake) Hero of the Soviet Union. The ribbon bar is: October Revolution, Service to Motherland 3rd class, Service to Motherland 3rd class, Order of Glory, Bravery Medal, Bravery Medal, Lenin Centennial, Armed Forces Veteran (reversed), Armed Forces 70th Jubilee, 20 Years Service. This seems a fantasy of mammoth proportions. Not very good at badges from memory, so I'll leave this for others. Stinks, stinks, stinks. Just my 30,000 Afghanis worth . . . Ed
