    9. with the advent of the gold rush in alaska during the turn of the century, seattle was a boom town. years later, seattle focused on airplanes, computers, porn, and beer--among other things! back in the day, there was a large and wealthy population of german immigrants who had strong ties and a lot of pride in the old country. there were many many businesses, restaurants, beer halls, etc. and there was a huge meeting hall for the german veteran community. it was very successful. everything was dismantled by the time ww1 rolled around. here is one of the few remaining reminders of a different time.

    14. hiya laurence, it's 'cause the tv system in the u.s. will change over to HDTV in 2009, and i'm not sure i will be able attach a converter to this thing. i sure hope so, though!
    15. best part is yet to come. i have a lead on a captured KM ship's chronometer IN the case. WITH the u.s. military paperwork to accompany it... :rolleyes:
