    1. I don't know.

I'd love to have it "in hand".

The rarer the piece/combo the greater the likelihood of it being fabricated as a "collectors edition".

Here you have somebody who merited a noncom EK2, was in uniform (which makes this one of only 3,000 or so EK2s) but not in combat in WW1. Yet by all indications he was in @ 1916+ and then got recalled in 1937 or so-and merited only a 4 year LS Luftwaffe medal (not enough time in by 1939/40 to have had the 12 year LS: most Sudenten medals were actually handed out to people in the beginning of 1939-making this bar MINIMUM from the Spring of '39-40).

Note there is no KvKx, which one might expect of a post 1940 bar.

      A native Hamburger?

A clever young gas technician/chemist working on Zepplins? An accountant? A chemist/pharmacist? A really good mechanic? Someone invalided out early who did vital war work?

The Luftwaffe certainly pulled in many odd technical types upon rearmament., so it sort of fits the bars' "story".

      I think its very intriguing.

Wow, thanks ulsterman. I think it's great how you guys can tell so much about a bar from just looking at it.

    2. Hello Gentlemen,

Im doing a research project about Generaloberstabsarzt Carl Franz.

Does anybody have his list of awards ?

2 - F?rstl. Hohenzollernsches Ehrenkreuz III. Klasse mit Schwertern

      3 - ??

      4 - ??

      5 - ??

      6 - ??

      7 - ??

Hi. Is no.2 not the Red Eagle Order 4th Class with Swords? :Cat-Scratch:

    3. So there is simply no way to find this information now with what we have. There was no obvious reason for him to have received either-- or anything else.

Well he was awarded something else! Hoping for a Zahringer Lion because as you know i found this!

I know there is an added spange.....but how does it compare to the one being worn in the pic?

    4. Luftkrieg, I think you are going about the wrong way. When you have a ribbon bar with Imperial awards and TR 25 Years long service first go through the Reichwehr ranklist, any years after 1922, find candiates and then look for pictures. That is how I would go about it. As Rick said the combinations are not unique but you may get luckly with a picture.

      Thanks Paul

    5. I find it "ironic" that somebody who has stolen the image from the Hildebrand Biblio biographies feels "entitled" to slap THEIR "property line" across that image. People. Yeesh.

It looks like a Saxon Albert Order, which would have been a Knight 2nd Class X for his rank BUT

he is on no award rolls. He either fell through the cracks getting listed for Saxony or maybe is among the illegible late 1918 Baden Z?hringen Lions. The thing is-- he had no apparent affiliation with EITHER, so... ???

      Hi Rick,

Yeh i had hoped for a Zahringer Lion....any way to confirm this at all? He would have been entitled to one for his rank?

Yeh, ended up borrowing this image from the island farm POW site..... :speechless1:

      Thanks again

    6. Immutable Laws Of Ribbon Bar Identification

1: There Must Be IMPERIAL COMBINATIONS which are unique (no, no, & no)

2: If 1 is not possible, then must be able to find photo of Said Ribbon bar in wear-- i.e. Generals' biographies or celebrity recipients (?,?, ?, no, no, no)

      Was thinking that Rick....have been on the Axis history research site all evening....no luck yet and i'm nearly finished {can only go as far as Gen.Maj :banger: there are no pics after that}
