    1. When I said they,I mean Greek authorities of course. This medal had in years 3 variants, this one is for WW1, another one similar is for WW2 and one for 70's. I guess this "Merit medal" name was called after WW 2 but this newspaper (or book whatever )of yours use the old one during WW1. There is of course a Distinguished medal for WW2 created at 25th of January 1945 that was awarded to AIR FORCE personel of 12 months of meritorious service with combat units in time of war. But I doubt Baker is a recipient of it as the chap was already 61+ years old when this came into light. I bold the word to see how in Greek language Meritorious is used for a Distinguish medal so the same can be for a Merit medal. Here is the medal I mention from WW2:
    2. Here is the Merit cross , medal 4th class or distinguished service how they call it also. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m133/em...OSS1916-17A.png Now there are 2 versions, this is the WW I version, the other one is with a clasp with "1940" on it. For the History, there were a regiment from Greece in Egypt during WW 2 that participate in El Alalamein and other actions, offering also Pilots for RAF. The same regiment participate when Allie forces attack Italy to liberate from German forces there. For this regiment ,there are 2 versions of medals, issued by Hellenic state.
    3. Yeah, As I see also he got a rare Silver Bravery medal from Milan I era.Looks in great condition too.
    4. Great photo Ulsterman, He owned the Yugoslavian crown ( far left order, out of the medal bar ) 2 Milos Obilic medals, Albanian Commemorative, Peter's I Merit medal and the medals from Both Balkan wars, B' Peter's cross and A', Kosovo medal. I don't know though what the badge was for.....
    5. Yes and Belgian medals within the same spirit. Serbian army of that time was very French oriented, don't forget they fight side by side at Balkan front in Northern Greece.
    6. Yes,I thought about too, indeed is the reverse of the medal. Must be an explanation though, hard I imagine an Officer not to know the obverse of a medal. He might fancy the sign of the reverse "ZA VERNOST OTADJBINI 1915" which we can translate as "For (soldiers) faith to the fatherland 1915" Another explanation is to dislike King Alexandar and he prefer King Peter I better (As we see,the other medal is with the obverse side ) There is no medal damage as the photo came with these 2 medals. Indeed an interesting photo,I agree...
    7. Greetings, my small contribution to this gallery. A Serbian Army Officer, Captain of I class with WW I Merit Medal of King Peter and the famous Albanian Campain Commemorative Medal from 1915.
    8. Send him our Greetings Chris and tell him we wait impatient for this project to end and the Book to see the daylight..
    9. Greetings Dejan, you are most welcome here. As for the medal, I spoke to a couple of guys that have more knowledge with these kind of medals and they told me that this medal is genuine, just have a new Gold paint - might from the owner that gave this to the seller- but I reckon that this medal is genuine. Regards Emanuel
    10. I am also on Oldenburg crosses, I find them very atractive. Your pieces are all ok with nice finishing, here is my Brass Oldenburg II class to compare them,as it is more rare than the others.
    11. Greetings to all, I assume that we are dealing with the cheaper Silver version that has been Gold plated afterwards. One is sure,it has a gold plate intervetion as it is clear from the photos. Milan you might know that was a Silver version but I do not posses photos to put up this moment. Nice that you pointed this sale, let's see what "feed" this buyer will send back Emanuel
