    7. These have become very hard to find - mostly from South West Africa - taken as souvenirs in 1916. These came in at the weekend and are for 1909 and 1913. One has had the tip re-filed , I suppose opening a tin got the better of it ........... (Pictures are separate - pressed the wrong button)
    8. IG - how did the Thompson vary between the models you list ? I see the one Chris is showing is that it has a long mag. and not the round one. Mervyn I have a .38 Police special - I suppose that even that could be called iconic - certainly tens of thousands of US Police have - and possibly still do, carry them. Mine is a Taurus - made in Brasil - for Smith and Wesson and has the 2" barrel. I also have a Taurus 6.35 pistol - it fits the Beretta leather case from WW2 perfectly. Mervyn
    9. This is the British 1907 pattern Lee Enfield bayonet. This particular one was first issued in September 1912. The X shows that it was sold out of service - probably after the end of WW1. Your machete shows the country of origin - but appears to be based on the US pattern. Mervyn
    10. These are Victorian Martingale badges - they are fixed on the leather work in the centre of the chest. The weight should be heavy and the brass thick.
    11. Hi - Ulsterman. It is a lovely old coat - something very dignified in it's appearance. Programmes in SA tend to be shown later then elsewhere - I will keep an eye out for this. We have a member who is a police researcher - I must ask him if he had anything to do with the series. Peter - welcome to GMIC. The 189 Act was also responsible for the Cityof London Force. Mervyn
    12. Two lovely helmets Kevin. Are any of our helmet collectors able to help with 'chapter and verse' on these. Mervyn
    13. Thanks Brian. Yes - it is from a period that is still connected closely with Britain. However, it could also have gone on the SA Forum. Mervyn
    14. JH - a lovely uniform and seems to be in excetional condition. The label on the trousers may have just been re-sewn - certainly, it gives you a starting point to see if the name has associations with the CG . Two points - on the left breast - are there the little thread holders for a ribbon bar ? With the date you have established I would expect him to have seen service. The other point - I was always under the impression that most officers of that period - particularly the Household Division - had their uniforms privately tailored ? Your tunic very clearly shows the broad arrow and War Department. I wonder what our members may think ? Mervyn
