    1. This is one i dreamed about as a kid. Cannot believe i'm about to own one.
    2. Gentlemen, A new cross, comments welcome, It looks a little funny at the bottom, but thats just the picture. I have an evaluation period. so please let me know if you dont like it.
    3. Thank you gentlemen, it wil make a nice new addition to my adiction. :cheeky:
    4. I have checked the back of the French pilot wings: The pin is in a central circular rise, the pin itself bends into the textile. (I hope i'm making myself somewhat clear.) The pin extends pretty far into the fabric. I can feel it. The insignia+ pin, i estimate are something like 4.5 cm long. It is hard to read without ruining it. And i do not want to detach it. above in high relief: DORE bottomleft in high relief: OR bottop right : FIN I guess this means: guilded - fine gold How about that. This little one has a few suprises left. I did not see makers marks or numbers. I was surprised i found any markings at all really. It is a pretty small badge. Does this tell anything usefull? prewar? postwar?
    5. Gentlemen, Since the nut and disc dont look -exactly- like ones posted here in the past. I thought there was no harm to run this one past the pannel. Since the disc curves a little on the edges, the wear on tear made by the disc, seems partly to originate by mounting the disc on the wrong side. It is marked with the little circle.
    6. Please do. I was thinking the same but did not dare to open another in Italy. Please move the thread in the US forum to Italy. Feel free to delete this one, maybe wait a day or 2, someone might know if the french pilot wings are prewar or postwar. Kind regards, V.
    7. Having seen some other badges with the same crown now, Yes i do believe we are looking at a post 1945 item. (late fourties or fifties?) Not a period in time that captures my interest i'm afraid. You all have been a great help so far! Any info on the cap badge is still welcome!
    8. I wasnt planning to, but if it makes you happy, sure i will. I'll take some pics and post them. I have a load of other medals and equipment to, unfortunatly most lies dormant at my parents home. If there is some interest i would not mind to post more items with a bit history to explain things a little. I'll try to post more, give me week or so.
    9. I've been pointed to the french subforum by a helpfull hand on this forum. So here it is. It is a fleemarket find, bought for a nickle and a dime. It just felt right. Never really id' it. I do not know anything about it. Help is, as always, appreciated.
    10. French? On account of the crown , i'd never have guessed. Paul, only some numbers are stamped inside, wich seemed very unrevealing to me.
    11. 1. They dont exactly throw them at you, but they can be found without much difficulty. It is a campaingnmedal really. There is also one for the fighting around Liege, wich is semi official. The city presented it, but is the only unofficial medal to my knowledge that is officially alowed to be worn on a belgian military uniform, making it semi-official. 2. correct, the soldier did recieve more medals than these 3 (not counting the repeats) I have the comm medal and the victory medal (It looks a lot like the US version, and that of many other nations for that mather). Unfortunatly they are unmounted. 3. The palm is indeed miniature, but i have seen this wear on quite alot of medals and do not believe for one second this a postwar addendum. What i appreciate in this bar is that it is a soldiers bar, for some reason i do not like officers bars with al these monarchist crowns and cheap silver. I'll take bronze any day. I just know this one was hard earned by someone who rather had been at home with his wife or mother.
    12. Purchased these with the intent to resell. But i cannot part with them. I expect these to stay in my collection for ever. The yser medal (black-red ribbon)is possibly my favorite medal. Afther the fighting around the forts of Liege, afther the fighting around Antwerp, the tired and blooded divisions pulled back towards the coast. Afther weeks without food or water being supplied, they held out against a formidable foo. The last 3 days the artillery had no more shells, only then the Yser plains were flooded, driving back a frustrated German army and giving the Belgian army a breather to hold out and refit, until the 1918 offensives pushed back the Germans. This medal was for those who were there in '14. -priceless- The middle one is the firecross, for all those with frontline service, that were under fire. The left one is for bravery and being mentioned in dispatches, (much like the french croix de gu?rre). The palm and lion are for repeat awards. Not only German/English/... awards have a lot of history to tell.
    13. If not American, i would guess Italian or Polish? On account of the shape of the eagle.
    14. It is a fleemarket find, bought for a nickle and a dime. It just felt right. Never really id' it. Help is, as always, appreciated.
    15. Bought 12 years ago, comments welcome. I cannot read the mm. Last picture is not very clear, but it is definatly 3piece.
    16. Just wondering... How can they possibly ship such an expensive model without it getting damaged underway?
    17. Absolutely lovely! great stuff!
